**Follow up - Okay, it's been one day since I posted. (Practically) and the neighbors started up again with their music. This time, rap, with their bass so high it was shaking my son's bedroom door. So, I opened my door, and knocked to tell them to just please turn it down. Of course, no answer. Called my hubby, he told me to scream out in the hallway to tell them to turn it down or I'd call police and they would make them turn it down. So, I followed his advice. And before I could even shut my door, Mr #4 screamed at me, (with beer in hand) And said he could do whatever the *^ he wants, and if I give him any more problems he will see me in jail and hurt my son. So, I said bring it &!!hole and locked my door. (Hubby, heard the whole thing, over the telephone) So, with that said, I called the police. Of course, as I dialed, I had a panic attack - and fianlly the police showed up. I had them come to my door FIRST (or at least one officer) Because for some reason I just did not feel safe anymore. Told the police what had happened, they actually called me down - So, I made an incident report. I asked for an order of protection or something, they told me no - I guess it's only used for couples, boyfriend girlfriend type things ect. BUT - I made an incident report. Then they asked me about my landlord. I told them about the Landlord, and they said to tell him one more time, and if he doesn't listen to call them back and THEY will talk to him. So, they knocked on their door and of course no answer. So, like usual. The cops left. Twenty minutes later someone pounded on my door. I figured it was Mr #4 so I ignored it. My brother was over, and he took a peek out of my kitchen window (It faces out to the front where their bicycles are 'parked') and seen them scurry off down the street. I figured good. Now I can take me and my son out of here. I got him dressed, and as I eft, the stupid idiots put a note on my door. This is EXACTLY what they put. I have the letter right here. "Well, since you have become a problem, Harrassing me, I am telling "Landlord" & DCFS that you and "Hubby" have other people living with you and also MARIJUANA smoking in the house with a child present and all the traffic coming and going! Drug dealing - and aslo have DCFS give "Hubby" a Drug test screening. Also - it is a FELONY for filing a FALSE POLICE REPORT - I will file ANOTHER complaint with DCFS since you have a case already. =] It's not 10:30PM. I can play music ^$@^$!!!!" I have never touched a drug in my life. Ever. My hubby was a dumb teenager back in the day, but ever since he graduated hiughschool he left it in the past. As for 'traffic' coming and going, sure. I have company. But never really on a regualr basis. SOmetimes a babysitter here, a friend there. My mother-in-law shows up..That's it... As for "Other people living with me" There is none. Just me, hubby a toddler. Sometimes my brother comes to spend the night (He lives in wisconsin, comes down for visits for a week, and leaves). Filing a "False" police report is a felony. But it wasn't false. I just don't understand these people. I took the letter to the police station, and they said it's enough evidence to book him in jail. But, the cop told me (It was the same guy that was over earlier) "Fine. We can put him in jail. But his bond is $100, He'll be there overnight, get out on bond...and slash your tires, or burn the place down or worse..." So, he basically gave me a choice. I didn't know what to do. So I chose not to. I want to move so bad... I guess for the meantime my landlord can eat crap - My life is in danger, as well as my son. I already paid November month's rent, I'm leaving tonight. I'm putting everything in storage, and staying with a friend a few blocks down until I can save up and move out. As for my neighbors, I hope they rot in hell. I live in Kankakee County, Illinois. And if you "make the offer to lend" a book but the recipient doesn't accept it within 7 days, or rejects it altogether, you cannot lend it to anyone else. You'll also find many books for less - over 135,000 titles are priced under $5.99" I don't think it's that any particular publishing house won't allow any of its books to be sold to Canada (or any country other than the USA), but it's more on a book-by-book basis. It's just a matter of time before all books available in the USA will be available in other countries. But, as it says on the Amazon web site, you can check the availability of books at any time, so if you're thinking of getting a Kindle, look to see if books you'd want are available. Nooks cannot be sold to anyone outside of the USA, so even with limited e-book availability, the Kindle is obviously the better choice. Nook owners keep mentioning the ability to get library books on their Nooks. I've searched for information on the Barnes and Noble web site, but cannot find anything about this. So, the only comment I can make is that if you have to go to the library to "borrow" the book onto your Nook, I don't see any advantage to that at all. It's so nice, with the Kindle, to be able to download books wherever you are at any time of the day or night. And I would imagine that you only get to have the library book for a specific period of time, and I don't like that at all. When you buy a Kindle book (or download a free Kindle book), it's yours forever. Even if you delete it from your Kindle, you can still download it again for free because it's in your Amazon Kindle account. Kindles in the USA have a one-year warranty. Kindles sold to folks in Canada have a one-year warranty. Canadians would have to send their Kindle to the USA for warranty service. I'm in California, and I'd have to send my Kindle elsewhere in the USA for warranty service, so we're even on that one. :-) Murray's Mom -- LOL! We have at least 800 physical books here in the house (hardbound and paperbacks; and, no, we haven't read all of them), but that didn't stop us from getting Kindles! We have the 2nd generation Kindles, so ours hold approximately 1,500 books each. The latest generation Kindles hold at approximately 3,500 books each. It's a heck of a lot easier to carry 100 books with you on a Kindle than it is to haul 100 physical books around with you! In fact, that's one of the driving reasons when I bought a Kindle for my husband. We both love to read, and when we go on vacation, we both always take books with us. But Hubs pretty much only buys hardbound books, and he tends to buy HUGE (thick) books. Try hauling four big, heavy, hardbound books in a carryon when you're flying somewhere. Ouch. Carrying a Kindle is a breeze. You can pretty much always have the Kindle with you, so you can read whenever you have a few minutes free - like waiting for a meeting to start, or while waiting for a bridge to "do its thing." We have two bridges in Sacramento - the Tower Bridge is a vertical lift bridge, and the I Street Bridge is a metal truss swing bridge. If you get stopped at the I Street Bridge as it begins "its thing," you're going to be there for at least 15 minutes. The Tower Bridge takes about 7-8 minutes. Many medical offices don't have magazines in waiting rooms now because of the risk/potential of passing germs, so if you have your Kindle with you, you get to read what you want to read while you're waiting. :-)

Anything is possible at BB. The first one I took back had a corrupt hard drive the second developed so many problems that a very qualified award winning certified Microsoft volunteer who has followed that old computer suspects this is what happened. As for the new one I had to replace. Costco concierge service did diagnostics on the phone with me and came to the conclusion that it needed to be returned because the operating system was not responding at all and perhaps the hard drive wasn't installed. It was plugged in and had a friend go through all of the plugs as was asked of us by the service. I took out all of the sockets in my place and had them replaced to meet the country wide code and also bought new surge protectors for my computer. I also have not put in any Microsoft software. The more I read the more I am not qualified to put it in and take care of the problems that most likely will ensue. I called a Microsoft store. There is a central phone bank in Texas that answers for all the calls that come in to the stores around the country. They could not get the store near me to answer the phone and suspected they were all busy. They tried three times as I stayed on the phone. I am not allowed to have the direct number to the store. There are many menus and the idea is you can help yourself by listening to these menus. I want to know if I can bring my PC and buy some software and have them install it.. This can all cost about the same price as my computer. I would like to talk with Bill Gates. The stores have also got bad reviews around the country. There are some excellent ones too but din't reign. I appreciate the idea of not wanting to go through a learning curve for both an operating system that people complained about so vehemently that they made one revision that will help me but then you have software that is either a rental package or a package deal that has difficulty with Outlook That's okay if I have step-by-step instructions or near an IT person which I always had at work. If Bill Gates is reading this please leave a message.

I agree with many of you who installed the free Libre Office suite. It's similar to my favorite MS Office 2003 with drop-down menus and toolbars you can customize. It will allow you to open MS documents, work on them, and save in the same format. It's also a breeze to save documents in the PDF format. There is a slight learning curve in Libre, as the names of some of the functions had to differ somewhat from Microsoft. However, what angered me most about MS is when they stopped offering support for either an operating system or office package in order to force one to purchase a new computer. For me, the ribbon menu was the last straw. In Office 2003, I knew exactly where every command was located. When they changed to the ribbon, a 15 minute job turned into hours trying to locate the command I needed. And I sorely missed the ability to create my own customized toolbars and menus. So I got a Mac, installed Libre and really love both. When Apple updates its operating system it's not a big deal. Just a simple download with no glitches and no nasty messages that support will soon end. I used to dread it whenever I had to download an update or upgrade the Microsoft system, for every time this happened the entire process was a nightmare. I'm really glad I made the move to a Mac, but it's a shame that MS shot themselves in the foot by refusing to back up their products or listen to their customers.
