Who sold you this laptop? What model is it? Doesn't sound "brand new" to me. Please prove me wrong.

I bought it from HP Canada online. And it was not advertised as refurbished, but as new. It's an HP Envy Intel core i7, 16GB - so not an inexpensive laptop. I'm waiting for a phone call from the 'higher level' at HP so I can request a return voucher. There is no other option, imo; and returns within 30 days are supposed to be hassle-free. So, in your opinion, azinoh, I'm not making a big deal about seeing the W7 restore point?

I'm still mystified as to why a new laptop would have a W7 restore point. You may have ordered a HP Envy Intel core i7, 16GB...but I'm not yet convinced that that is what you received. Mistakes do happen. Is there A MODEL NUMBER ON THIS DEVICE THAT YOU CAN PROVIDE?

Richard, that might have been what I saw. I can't find anything else right now. If it is what I saw, why would it restore to Windows 7? Why not 8.1 since it's a more similar operating system I think?

OK, I'm embarrassed. I just checked our desktop computer with Windows 10, and it has the Windows 7 restore point option, too. eek. So I guess it's normal. Thanks for letting me know Richard. *blush*

I just thought since I'm having some problems maybe it had something to do with the W7 restore point I obviously misinterpreted, but I guess it doesn't.

The problems I've had so far have been having to factory reset the computer right out of the box (as per HP support's advice) because it was stuck in French language, and nothing could change it (HP said quite few people are having the same problem).

Also, I continually get popups telling me the HD Intel Graphics Display drive has stopped working and has recovered - when it does that, the computer acts strange and stalls. I went to the Intel site and ran the tool to see if I need to update anything, and the only updates it showed was for the wifi and bluetooth drivers, which I installed this morning.

Also, the first set of Windows Updates that took place also stalled for 2 days, and although some were successful, probably half of them failed or were incomplete. Plus the computer feels slow and hesitant at times. So, I was imagining all sorts of incompatibility issues, which was probably wrong. I'm going to keep using it to see how it runs until HP calls me back, and discuss the problems with them. I'll tell them I misunderstood the W7 restore, too.

I really do wish things were running more smoothly, though - I had great expectations and don't want to spend the life of this computer frustrated by problems.

Yeah, bringing back the old Windows 7 Backup and Restore tool and leaving it named as is confused me too. :-)

Good luck with that problem, I'd return the computer. A lot of people have it even new out of the box too.

I'd probably download the Win10 Media Creation Tool and make myself an ISO for use on another computer & run its setup in windows to do a refresh install. Can fix a lot of things pretty quickly. If you have a 3rd party anti-virus or any google products, uninstall them before doing the install... replace them later.

Thanks everyone. mikie, that sounds a little complex. If necessary, I'll try it, though. An update... last night after posting here, I decided to try to get those Windows updates redone and out of 'stall' mode. So, what happened was the latest version of Windows 10 updated - it was a long one, took about an hour. After that, my computer is working like I think it should as far as speed with no lags.

I haven't used it enough to see if that "HD Intel Graphics Display driver has stopped working and has recovered" popup happens again. So far it hasn't. While doing the Windows 10 update, I could see it was installing new drivers for quite some time, so I'm hoping that will resolve the issue. If not, it looks like I'll have to return it because it's really annoying to continually see this popup whenever I try to navigate the internet.

I'll post back to report what happens. Thanks to you all for your help.

Well, the HD Intel Display Driver popup happened. It's not something I want to deal with continually so I'm going to return it. :(

I'm sure is has to be a Driver Issue. I have an Acer Aspire V5 573p-6896 w/Intel Core i5 and it occasionally will get something saying the Intel HD Graphics has Failed. Sometimes it's a Set Of Angel Wings and sometimes it's a Black Box with Red X that slides out from the lower right hand side! This doesn't happen often, but it does happen! I can live with it, because is not often! BTW, my wife has the same exact Laptop and it does the same thing. They are both 100% Updated with Windows 10 (upgraded to 10 from Windows 8). I never gave these laptops a chance with Windows 8, Upgraded to 10 as soon as it was available!

This driver issue happens frequently. It just seems wrong to have it happen with a new computer. It happened twice this morning, and it is a little black box with a red x and slides out from the lower right hand side with some chime-like sound that happens at the same time. It barely stays out long enough for me to read it - ha. I now see it says the Intel HD Display Graphics Driver for W8(r). I wonder if there is some incompatibility for a W8 driver with a W10 system that has a restore option for W7. lol

I'm also wondering if it's possible to uninstall that driver? Will I really be in trouble then? I'm still waiting for HP to call me back.

I hope I'm not adding too many questions to my issue, but I thought of something yesterday. I used one of my credit cards while using this computer. If I send it back to HP, will a factory reset delete that information? Kind of worried about that.

OK, I may have some promising news. I had already tried the Intel testing tool to see if the drivers needed to be updated, and it said they were up-to-date. So just now I searched the internet for this driver issue, and someone said to go into Device Manager>Display Adapters>Intel HD Graphics driver>and click on update driver. It actually worked, and the driver updated. I had gone into the Device Manager before, but I wasn't sure where this particular driver was located.

So I'm really hopeful that this takes care of this problem. Holding my breath to see if I get the popup again. Will report back. bugspop, maybe you and your wife can try this on your computers.

Dee, Thanks, but all my Drivers are up to date 100% (only happens very occasionally).

Just an FYI, That thing you see in Control Panel that says: Backup and Restore Windows 7 is absolutely nothing to worry about, it's supposed to be there. Every computer (with Windows 10) I've worked on has this on it (New or Upgraded)! They should have thought of a better name as to not confuse people!

I am certainly no expert, but I do have a two year old US version i7 HP Envy. It was sold loaded with Win 8.1. It never had any running issues (other than learning to use 8.1 rather than XP). I upgraded to Win10 and it appeared to do that in about an hour (perhaps the initial downloading at night without observation may have taken longer), again with no issues. Since HP couldn't clear up all issues on the first try, and you are running out of time, I think I would return it.
