Have you ever fantasized about living in a log cabin? What about an old lodge? I certainly have. My husband and I take a trip to the Bear Creek Log Cabins in Fort Payne, Alabama every couple years and it is so much fun! Every time we leave, we seriously contemplate selling our house and buying an old cabin to live in instead. :-) Nature's patience is intoxicating up there in the wilderness, and the simplicity of lodge life feels so peaceful and good.

I had daydreams and fantasies when I was growing up. I always wanted to live in a log cabin at the foot of a mountain. I would ride my horse to town and pick up provisions. Then return to the cabin, with a big open fire, a record player and peace.

If you love the lodge-style look of the homes in this Ideabook, here are some things you can do to achieve a similar look.
1. FLOORS
Layering smaller patterned area rugs on top of larger, more textural ones is a great way to create a cozier, cabin feel- especially if your floors are wood, tile or stone.
2. WINDOWS
Woven-wood blinds are a great way to add some natural texture to your windows. If you really want to go crazy, you might consider trimming out your windows with log-style trim too. As for curtains- skip 'em! Less is more in lodge-style homes.
3. PAINT
Choosing lighter, more neutral colors will allow the colors outside to be the center of attention through all those unobstructed windows.
4. UPHOLSTERY
Stick with comfortable, traditional, hard-wearing fabrics. Have fun with lively colors and patterns- they'll sing within your quiet walls.
5. CEILING
Attach knotty pine planks to your ceiling. This will instantly warm up your space and inject loads of lodge-style charm.
6. ACCESSORIES
Welcome the outdoors in by using accessories made of natural materials like stone, wood, glass and metal. Hang nature-inspired art and photography to further enhance the outdoorsy theme.
7. FURNISHINGS
Use rustic wood furniture, or painted pieces that are distressed, to encourage a relaxed and laid-back look.
