A loss of a mother

A fellow member of my daylily club lost his mother last night

All I would ask is that you would send prayers for my friend Mark. Jewell was a very special lady to us. She will be greatly missed by us.

DLD, I'm really sorry to hear of the loss of a close friend. Was it unexpected? Not that it matters, you still have that emptiness in your heart.

But after trying to enter my 4 breakfast items on Spark, I'm not finding it easy to use, but that may be the learning curve. I'll try again later. There's a learning curve, I've only just begun, but it gets better with staying with it. When you click "Add a food", which leads to search foods, if you can't find what you want, be sure to tick under the lower far right of the search box "search food shared by other members" (that's a gold mine). Then once you find the food in the search results, click to highlight. (This is the step where you'd add it to your meal.) But below the search box you'll "Add to Which" (meal). Just under that is a little box you can tick to "Add to Favorites". Then you don't have to keep looking for the same things. From then on, when you click "Add a Food" and get the search screen, you just click the large "Favorites" tab at the top & that's where they are stored. HTH, I'm very new myself! And I found the demo videos (which I hate to watch) really did help. They're only a couple minutes long per step.

Grieving the loss of my mother

I am glad I found this site, to see that others feel the same as I do. I lost my mother last week, she passed away Feb 27, 2013 at the age of 65. My mother was my soul mate, she was my best friend and recently she felt like a daughter. I miss the sparkle in her eyes. She had been ill for about 8 years, on and off, and each time she seemed to get better. She always had such a great attitude and sense of humor. I thought she would get better this time too. I was her caretaker, along with my father for the last 2 years. Before that I worked with her and saw her every day. I have seen her or talked to her every day of my life. I am only 30 years old and I always thought I would have her around for another 20. I still feel like a child, and without her I feel lost. I don't have children yet, and I know that when I do it will be bitter-sweet because she is not here. The pain I feel is very intense and I am exhausted, I have only begun grieving and I wonder when it will end (but I see now that it never will). I am not sure what to make of all these strange feelings. A week before she passed away, angels came to me and told me that she would feel better by the end of the following week. Even though my interpretation was wrong, they were right, she does feel better. Since her passing she has been talking to me and that is a huge comfort, she tells me she is happy and that she will always be by my side. She tells me she is excited to meet her grandchildren. She has been telling me not to wait to live my life anymore, to have fun. She also said to think of her transition as a long vacation, we will see each other again when my flight lands. My story is so similar to all the others I have read, so I am sure your mothers are by your sides helping and guiding you through your lives. Talk to your mothers because they hear you and the love they feel for you is pure.

Could this be due to shock of losing my mother?

thank you lazygardens, as you can imagine I feel quite numb, and thought it might be the shock and/or the birth control, I feel so bad for even worrying about it. But I am. I never saw it coming, one day she was here, the next day she's lying on a hospital bed dead before my eyes, I still can't get the image of her out of my head, I remember thinking, this can't be my mum, mum was so healthy and active, although she battled trying to lose weight, she was was healthy and always doing something. I've submerged myself in work to try to get on with things, a few funny things have occurred like her picture falling several times off the desk when no one is near it, talk back radio coming through speakers that have no power running through them, I feel like she is around me; maybe she is or maybe I just wish she was. I'm grateful for this site where people can come and get things off their chests, or just have some comfort in knowing they aren't alone. So, to whoever set this site up, thank you and God Bless.

kathy t - I think that's a fabulous idea. My mother died nine years ago -- one week after 9/11. And just yesterday, as I was walking up the stairs to my bedroom, I thought "I should call Mom." If only I could. We held a memorial service for her in my brother's backyard a month or so after she died. My niece worked with a friend to put together a wonderful video of my Mom's life with pictures of her and my dad, all six of her kids, her 13 grandkids, and two great-grandkids. She also included some music that meant something to all of us. It was truly amazing, and I've watched it many times. This is a quote from C.S. Lewis, that I may have gotten from RP, that really sums up how I feel about the loss of my mother: "With my motherÂs death, all settled happiness, all that was tranquil and reliable, disappeared from my life. There was to be much fun, many pleasures, many stabs of Joy; but no more of the old security. It was sea and islands now; the great continent had sunk like AtlantisÂ" C.S. Lewis And as Edna St. Vincent Millay put it: "The presence of that absence is everywhere."

She had not been feeling good the last time I saw her, but she said it wasn't serious. But I guess the winter made it more serious than she realized. The first indication that she wouldn't last much longer was night before last. She had all her family and friends there and was able to tell them all goodbye before she passed away.
When my mother passed away in 2003, she gave me some very good advice that meant very much to me.. She had lost her husband when Mark was a little boy. I know that being a single mother back then was rough but she managed to raise her family.
I have a card ready to take over to the house in Plant City,
It says something that is close to what I feel right now but I am not able to put it in words. She will be greatly missed.

DLD, your friend's mom is in my thoughts. Peace be with the family. Jewell....I love that name, surely she was just that.

I am so sorry for your loss! You and your friend are in my thoughts and prayers. My mom is 85, I don't get to see her very ofter, and cherish every minute with her!

Daylily, just a question, did Jewell happen to live in Clearwater, FL?

I know of a woman named Jewell and it's such an uncommon name to me. Wondering if it's the same person. She had 4 sons; one of them a Mark.

Jewell did not live in Clearwater. She lived in Plant City on Cason St with Mark and his friend Dwain Miller. She only had Mark and his sister.
As far as her name, Jewell was not uncommon to me, I have an Aunt named Jewell. She lives in Valdosta Ga. I think a long time ago women who were named Jewel, got that name because the parents may have thought their newborn baby girl was a jewel to the family.
