Reno's Appliances in Patterson and Fairfield NJ isn't too far away. Also, Leibert's Royal Green (some combination of those names is the right one!) in White Plains had a good price on a Wolf 36" AG range, not sure about other stuff there. I know other's here have mentioned some appliance stores in the city, Krups is one, but you can do a search on the bottom of the appliance page to find more.

Try Karl's call their Orange NJ office (only 3% sales tax).

Karl's is 3 1/2% sales tax and so is Reno's

Actually, tax is based on where you live (where the appliances are being delivered), not where the store the located. Since you are in NY, you'll pay the NY tax (state/county/etc.) for your area.

My expereince at Karl's Appliance was horrible. Reno's was much much better.

The sales people at Reno's were not pushy.

I had the opposite experience, I guess it's the luck of the draw. I was able to use the wholesale department at Karl's and had a great experience. I didn't care for the Reno's salesperson I spoke with at all. He actually quoted me more for the Bluestar than for the Wolf. I knew the Bluestar should be cheaper and asked him why he was quoting me more. He told me it was because the burners had more power, and if I wanted the power I would pay for it.

I didn't feel I could trust them after that.

You could also try Drimmers. My contractor recommended them and has done business with them. The prices were better than the quotes I got from a couple of places in my town.

They've also been mentioned in a magazine (maybe NY magazine?) as a good place for appliances.

I bought the appliances for my previous house from Colonial Appliance in New Providence. They are part of a buying coop, so they were very competetive. Not sure if they will deliver to NY though.

I recommend Reno's in Fairfield, NJ on Rt. 46.

I bought my Miele DW at Karl's in Fairfield, but when I shopped for the rest of my appliances I didn't like their attitude. Karl's wouldn't give me any attention unless I was with my husband!

Reno's was very nice. I bought my Wolf range, SZ, and Marvel Beverage center there. The prices were just about the same.
Karl's gave a discount off the tax if you paid for it at their Orange, NJ store.
Reno's gave an equivalent package discount, and I didn't have to go to a different location to pay!

I did a lot of research online before I purchased. I looked at the us appliance web site and also cutting edge kitchens to get ball park figures. I received price quotes from both Reno's and Karl's (Cutting Edge never returned my calls).
I visited Reno's in Fairfield to get the price quote and called Karl's in Orange and received quotes by email; I spoke with Dino Poulos. For the appliances I wanted Karl's was cheaper and I got a better feeling from the sales person I was dealing with.
I think both companies are similar so it really depends on your salesperson.

lisacdm - I think I will be going to the Fairfield location because that is closer for me - hopefully I will have good luck.

igate - I checked the website and didn't see what I was looking for but they have an Ebay store which has everything I am looking for and the prices are better. Did they work out something for shipping costs? While their prices are better on the actual product, if I had to pay all the separate delivery charges it would be more expensive.

Try Joe D's in Clifton. However, its a luck of the draw on pricing. I found out that Reno's Karl's, Joe D's and others all belong to the same purchasing co op and thats how they can compete with the big guys. The price seems to depend on the how they are doing that day or month. Reno's had given us a price on a couple of appliances, I went to Joe D's and he said the guy is just about breaking even and couldn't figure out how he did it since they all pay the same price being in the same co op. Joe D's is a small store with little overhead so you need to know what you want you want when you go in. Good Luck. Tony M

Just wanted to update everyone who gave recommendations. I visited Karl's today in Fairfield. Their quote came in $1200 less than the quote my GC gave me. The salesperson seemed to know less about the appliances than I did but since I knew what I wanted that was not an issue for me. I will try Reno's and see if they can do better. Thanks again.

johnnytugs, I tried buying large items from on line California dealers. The stuff never gets here in 1 piece. Always some issue and the local people walk away from you saying you bought it in California call California. Big items just don't travel well. I'll stick with the Jersey guys, Reno's and Karl's.

maybe that happened in your instance but mine was delivered fine and it weighed in at 591 lbs. i would have liked to used local guys but they just didn't cut it for me.not only did i buy it in cali. i got an extended warr. and i have jersey coast in pt.pleasent to do any repairs if needed. so i guess some mfg. don't care about there service representation. with american range (when i thought i needed service) i spoke directly with them and thats the kind of relationship i like no middleman. dealers......distributors......mfg that just seems like to many people to deal with but thats just me.
but i do enjoy the garden state!

My daughter bought all her appliances at Reno's and was very happy with Joe, her salesperson. I've been looking there for over a year and am not crazy about the salesperson, Guy, who has been following us - he's gotten a little too territorial.
I plan to make an appointment with the store manager next time I go in because I need another opinion. Everybody agrees that Reno's is a reliable, good place to deal with. The GC's and KD's like to deal through Karl's but I haven't yet found a salesperson who knows anything.

My KD recommended Oberg & Lindquist in Westwood, NJ and the salesperson, Cat, is a sweetheart. But they don't carry JennAir or Electrolux, so I feel they are limited. She highly touts KitchenAid.

Gold Coast Appliances in Greenvale,(Long Island) NY - about 40 min from the GW Bridge, is small but carries every brand and Jessica, who waited on us, spent hours and was extremely knowledgeable. Once we make our decisions, they will be in the final running. They are a family business.

I like Gabowitz in Central NJ: 272 Route 18 North in East Brunswick (close to exit 9 off the turnpike). (732) 257-7846. Mike Elkins or Jeremiah are nice to deal with. Good prices. In general, I try to do my own research and don't rely on the sales people anywhere to know what they're talking about.

i'm dealing w/ karl's in perth amboy. they are very good and the pricing is much better than at reno's. (like, 9K better) and the sales tax is NOT based on where you live, but where the store is located so the sales tax is 3.5% for that area. i wanted my capital range and while karl's was not carrying them, since i have asked they are now moving in the product. that's service! the sales staff at reno's is excellent and while the staff at karl's is not as knowledgeable there are still a couple of salesmen there who are very good... dennis and juan, i think? sorry, not sure but haven't you done your homework anyway?!

We used Lakes Appliances (online) in NJ, but they have stores there primarily. I've heard great things from folks who used them locally, and we had a great experience using their website. All appliances shipped free, no tax, to Florida, great prices, great service, 5-year warranty included.
