Hi,

We are looking for higher end appliances for a remodel .... what dealer would you recommend in the tri-state area, and why?

If you have any contacts we'd be happy to use you as a reference.

We used AJ Madison, they are located in Brooklyn. Solomon Lewis is the salesperson we used.

Another vote for AJ Madison. Check out their website, then visit their showroom in Brooklyn for even better prices. I worked with Shana Ciment.

My daughter bought all her appliances at Reno's and was very happy with Joe, her salesperson. I've been looking there for over a year and am not crazy about the salesperson, Guy, who has been following us - he's gotten a little too territorial. I plan to make an appointment with the store manager next time I go in because I need another opinion. Everybody agrees that Reno's is a reliable, good place to deal with. The GC's and KD's like to deal through Karl's but I haven't yet found a salesperson who knows anything. My KD recommended Oberg & Lindquist in Westwood, NJ and the salesperson, Cat, is a sweetheart. But they don't carry JennAir or Electrolux, so I feel they are limited. She highly touts KitchenAid. Gold Coast Appliances in Greenvale,(Long Island) NY - about 40 min from the GW Bridge, is small but carries every brand and Jessica, who waited on us, spent hours and was extremely knowledgeable. Once we make our decisions, they will be in the final running. They are a family business.

You're correct reposado, Marilyn was not our salesperson, she is in a different location/bldg in cust svce. She was absolutely wonderful in helping us to resolve our original range situation (I'm waiting to post more details on that 'til all the t's are crossed/i's dotted, you know how it goes). Marilyn had nothing to do with not matching Leibert's price on the Wolf. We'd gone looking at other ranges while waiting to hear how our situation would be resolved. Our search took us to Conn. (to check out a Capital Precision, which seems to be in short supply around these parts), and while on the other side of the TZ, decided to check out Leibert's, to see what they had. We spent a fair am't of time with a salesperson there, discussing the Wolf AG, so we asked for the price. We really just wanted to get an idea as to the cost of the Wolf (we figured we'd be purchasing the new range from Reno's as we'd already been working with them). When we spoke with the mgr at Reno's (who'd handled one of our purchases), we told him the price Leibert's had quoted, and asked if Reno's price was the same, and if not, would they match it. He was surprised that Leibert's was selling the range for that price, and told us if we could get it for that price, we should get it from the other store. We did call again, to give Reno's an opportunity to meet the price, but were told the same thing as before. I asked the salesperson at Leibert's how they were able to sell the range for less, and he told me that they do such a high volume of business for Wolf/SZ, they are allowed to charge what they want. We really and truly wanted to and had planned to make the purchase at Reno's (we'd gotten our entire kitchen's worth of appliances there). We have been fine with them, and as I said, Marilyn was extremely helpful and responsive with our range situation and also with any other appliance questions we may have had. BTW, we know about things being held up. Because we've been waiting to see if/when a range switch would take place, we've been holding off on finishing the (HW) floors. This has held up the installation of our toe kicks on our cabs and a wood panel under our msg ctr (can't wait to see how much "off" the color is since the kicks and panel haven't been exposed to as much sunlight as the cabs!). Since the installer had to wait to come back to install the toe kicks and the panel, our KD's have held off having him come back to adjust/replace some glides, door hinges, my towel bar, etc. Bummer is right!

I am currently putting together the appliance list for my new build, and have come up with almost the exact set. My feelings over the Wolf microwave as well as most built in microwaves is that they are kludgy looking with a microwave embedded in a frame. But, I am worried about the single appliance with oven and microwave in one unit. Microwaves seem to be a bit fragile these days. For those reasons, I've been looking at the standalone electrolux microwave which looks like the oven, or a speed oven such as ge or Electrolux, combined with a single icon wall oven. Have you also considered a warming draw?

Our icemaker decision was made for us by the fact that the city puts something into the water that we don't want in our systems, and it's impossible to get out with any currently affordable filters, so we're doomed to making our own ice with purer water from the store (refillable containers). And a note re the dependability that you won't blow anything up with a newer stove: read some of the horror stories at the link below (enter whatever brand you want -- I'll start it with one). That site is why it took us so darn long to get a new range! We finally settled on an American, which doesn't have as much electronics as, say, an Electrolux or whatever else, and is somewhat affordable (I found a great price that made it possible for us). We have our fridge from 1999--probably more energy efficient at cooling than yours, jakabedy, but no way as fundamentally cool -- with a fridge like that you were *destined* to find that home :) Here is a link that might be useful: the unfunny version of the article

I'll be the dissenting voice, as I had a bad experience with AJ Madison when I went in. The salesperson was very uninterested and, more importantly, uneducated about appliances. I was telling HER why the Capital she was showing me wasn't the Culinarian, when she insisted it was.

I'm working with David Sugarman at Gringer's who is knowledgeable and has given me some very fair prices. I've read online reviews very critical of Gringers, but it's not been my experience.

We had great luck with Village Appliance in Port Chester. They were the only place we went to in Westchester that offered any real assistance and their prices were the best we found, too.

If your are in N. Jersey, I used Top Line in Westfield - Wes Girnius was the salesperson. They are easy to deal with and have great prices and will match any price in writing. The best part is that they have a store in a NJ designated enterprise zone, so tax was only 3.5% if you drive there to buy it.

I recommend Barry's in Bridgewater NJ. Good prices and this family owned business services the appliances they sell. The sales people do not work on commission so they can truly help you evaluate the appliances. If you go, tell them I sent you. Anyone can help you there. They are all well trained. I can recommend Ryan and Jason.
FYI they have an electrolux induction on display - a rare thing. They allowed me to test drive it by baking cookies. They will be setting up a capital that customers can also cook on.
As an interior designer, I look for stores that service their customers. Barry's has its on fleet of service people and usually you will have service within three days. They prioritize - a customer without refrigeration would get service before someone with a broken dishwasher. Most often, I believe service is even quicker.

In Manhattan I've used Stuart at Krups Kitchen and Bath for two kitchen renovations. They have all of the high end brands. They know how deliveries work in NY apt buildings, whether subzero refrigerators will fit in the service elevators and willingness to make multiple deliveries (we don't have garages to store stuff until needed).

my vote, hands down, Leiberts Royal Green .. absolutely far and away the best customer service in any appliance retailer i've EVER dealt with (3 residential remodels in past 12 yrs).... i posted a review here some time back, but these guys are exceptional.
