Need tiling help with tub that has a 'lip' around it?

Apologize for not knowing the technical term...but I ran into a framing issue today...I'm putting in a pocket door in a newly framed bathroom (expanding an attic area)....the tub will be surrounded by walls on 3 sides..the wall for the pocket door is on the side where the plumbing will go..we've done "good" and allowed enough space for the plumbing, but we weren't sure if we are supposed to allow 1/2 inch for the durock to go behind the tub or do we align the tub right next to the framing and then durock over the "lip" and let it rest on the rim of the tub? I did the latter and now I'm second guessing myself...there's still time to move the framing for that pocket door wall but I wanted to confirm which is best...I'll be tiling up the sides of the bath up to 4-5 feet..

thanks for your help!!
