Help, please. Security scan does not finish

Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop with Vista and McAfee Total Protection. Seven months now with no problems.

I have set up McAfee for weekly full scans. The last full scan that was completed was on February 15.

Since then, the scans stop at 57%. It always stops at:

C:\Windows\System21\SpeechUX\sapi.cpl

When it stops, everything freezes and I cannot do anything except to shut it down using the power button. Upon restarting, I'm given choices of starting in one of several safe modes or by normal restart (which appears to be the default). I go thru the normal restart, disks are checked and nothing unusual (at least, to me) seems to show up. After that, I can resume operations as usual.

In the seven months since I've had this laptop, my scans have never uncovered anything that needs fixing. And while I have not experienced any limitations since this started, I'm nevertheless curious about it. Of course, I would like the scans to go through to completion, even if nothing has ever turned up before.

Does anyone know what is going on and what I should do about this? TIA!
