Difficulty installing MS Office Pro 2007 Upgrade

I am having trouble installing the Upgrade to Microsoft Office Professional 2007 on my laptop. The laptop is running Vista and I have MS Office Pro 2000 installed already. When I attempted to install the Upgrade I receive a message stating that it is unable to locate a previous version. It then gives a browser window from where I can either search for the inatalled program or locate it using the install disc(?). I don't know where to point the browser to, I made several attempts like pointing it to the program folder or cd where the install disc was located. Might someone know how to work around this problem so I can complete the installation of this newer version.

I would have removed Office 2000 first so that I get a squeaky clean install of Office 2007. Why start with a possibly muddied environment?

At some point during the install of Office 2007 you are prompted to insert the Office 2000 CD verifying you are entitled to upgrade.

When the install offered to browse for the old office it was looking for your CD which you would place in the drawer at that point. I do not believe just pointing to the folder was good enough, you needed to point to the executable file if you preferred that route to offering the original CD.

I did remove the old version but, when I placed the old cd in the cd drawer I was unable to locate the proper (executable) file.

Can you assist me in determining what that file name might be or where it may be located, if I do or do not uninstall the older version? This is where I am having difficulty and need some additional assistance.

Just my observations.....I am retired and use MS Office for my personal use only after many years in the business world. I have been using the 2003 version for many years and have been very happy with it. I could do any and everything I wanted to without any thought. I had to purchase a new computer that came with Windows 7 and find that the 2003 version of MS Office is not compatible and I am FORCED to upgrade to 2010. It is definitely different and has a learning curve to it. Now I have to spend a lot of time finding how to do what I used to do with no thought. I wish I didn't HAVE to but the "powers that be" (Microsoft) do not allow you to have a choice, they force you to change whether you want to or not, whether you NEED to or not. Point being, whether you want to or not, eventually you are going to HAVE to upgrade. Your only decision is: now or later. Good luck!

well if we look at your actual problem it may be that all you need to do is uninstall your copy you currently have on there now and then do a reinstall from your discs which you have. It could be that something simply got corrupted and a fresh install will fix it right back to how it should be. That would be my first try before buying something else. I use Open Office on all my linux comuters and have Office Professional (not 2007!) on my xp computers, I have had no problems between the 2, you do have the options with Open Office as to which type of file format you want to save in. I would first definitely try to find out just what the problem is with what is on there now before going on. Is it only emailed files is it only to one email is it to all files is it to all emails etc are files not emailed ok?

I just upgraded to Vista Ultimate a few weeks ago. On the pro side, Vista loads and shuts down faster then XP Pro. It seems to work better with most of my applications. It definitely works better with Office 2007, which was slow with XP. I have not had any operational problems. I did have a problem with the Firewall of Microsoft's Live OneCare, but found the solution in a Web search. The only cons of Vista was a lack of support for my five year old lexmark printer. Lexmark has informed me that they will not provide Vista drivers for a "legacy" printer. No more Lexmark printers for me!!!!! I just purchased a Canon printer on eBay. Vista is supported and the Canon has better features and cheaper ink. I work in the computer field and will have to deal with Vista, so I had some incentitive to upgrade. So far, I've had many more problems with XP Service Pack 2.

Just started testing Office 2007, see post tonight asking for help on finding how to stop the applications from searching the Internet (guess), and have to agree, Word seems to have changed everything. Well all the old stuff is there, but down one or two clicks, if you can find the right clicks. One problem, not new to 2007, was setting Save As, Open to go to a directory of my choice, not the default "my documents" which is a set XP folder. I found one can copy a "Word" directory (say) into the dialog box, left hand side, but it is still one click away as the dialog opens in the default "My Documents". I returned a new Notebook (Acer that had some driver problems, most likely due to Vista) a few months back and purchased some old shelf stock to get a new Notebook with XP. I also have a "free" upgrade for a Dell Desktop, but I'm not using it, staying with XP Media in that case.

Still cannot load the Program. Was on the phone with Microsoft support in the Phillippines and India for over an hour. They were unable to help. Left me with the suggestion of loading the Trial Version from the website then converting to the Upgrade. Was able to install the Trail version, it does NOT come with Outlook 2007 which is the main program I use. I cannot even attempt to convert until the trialware date is close. THIS IS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED AND THINK I MAY HAVE WASTED APPROX. $300.00.

Well I do not think you should consider it a lost cause. I think I would be back on the phone and explain that you have already had an hour of non helpful assistance and you now wish to have the CD replaced with a valid copy.

Be composed and cool, explain your position and insist on some action on their part without being rude or emotional.

Keep a record of your dealings with them so at any time you can show you have been more than patient with their staff while looking for satisfaction.
