Should I Install Windows Vista Upgrade?

Hi, I just received the latest Windows Vista Home Premium upgrade in the mail for an HP Slimeline computer that I purchased new in December, 06. The computer now has Windows XP in it. This will change the operating system from Windows XP to the newer Windows Vista. Should I install this upgrade or stay with the Windows XP? Is there any problems that I will have if I do install the upgrade?

There have been issues on other forums with laptops and gaming. If you game, make sure that the games are Vista compatible. You also should insure, that your computer has a minimum of 1G memory and should probably consider 2G. Vista is very memory intensive

"...Slimeline ..." Love the faux pax! And agree with it due to personal HP experience!

About Vista upgrade.....Don't do it! Wait a number of months more. Keep reading and checking in. Wait until you get some indication that Vista has stabilized. Many, many problems and incompatibilities being reported at this early date.

Assuming your XP is working OK, stay there!

check the link for info on that ATI Catalyst. ati2evxx.exe is the ATI External Event Utility for your ATI display drivers. It manages the ATI Hotkey feature. It seems it is really up to the individual user if they want to leave this running on their pc or not. IF it is using a lot of cpu resources and causing problems it can be turned off/disabled. It is mostly for use if you have 2 monitors in use on the one pc, it controls the hotkeys used to switch monitors and other ATI hotkeys. so I would go ahead and let it update since you do have ATI components on your pc, it is likely a real ATI process. You should see it in your task manager if you hit control alt and delete together then look at the list of processes you should see it listed there and you can also look and see how much resources it is using. OK everyone, get up off the floor. Yes, it is really me. I have been waiting to return from sabbatical and this thread may be the best reason to return. Now hang on to your seats. I finally entered the 21st century by replacing my old 400mhz HP Win98 OE with a new dual core HP with Vista Home Premium. My experince is almost identical to Bob's. Updated favorite applications and replaced some very outdated hardware. Didn't skimp on the memory as I went two gigs. In two months I have only had two concerns. One was with the trial version of Symantec Internet Security System following a lengthy update. I ended up deleting the application, another saga for another time, and installing AVG. The other was when I broke my own rule, "never install more than two O/S updates at once" as I downloaded six at once. System restore came to the rescue and after following my rule all is well. It amazes me how many diagnostic utilities that are available. Having much experience with Win2000 and XP at work, I still find Vista an improvement and give it a thumbs up. As far as any sound concern, there are many places to control sound in Vista, particularly if you have Real Tek Audio Manager. Notice the above valance -- the bottom of the valance is just covering the upper molding of the window. Inverted pleat too. Notice out it takes advantage of the upper space? Actually makes the window appear larger.

I'm still mulling over the best window options over here and figured I would simplify my questions to the following four I am still mulling over--keeping in mind I plan to be in my home for decades, so hoping to get a window that lasts! Material--would you recommend vinyl, fiberglass or fibrex for a midwest/broad temperature range climate? Warranty--would a lifetime warranty sway you into an inferior product? Sliders--when it comes to replacing two single-hung windows with sliders--do you think one brand outperforms others in this type of window? Anything to be aware of when choosing sliders over casement...other than the very slight difference in efficiency? Brands--I think I'm down to Window World, Marvin (Essential) or Andersen (100). Which would you choose and why?

I just upgraded to Vista Ultimate a few weeks ago. On the pro side, Vista loads and shuts down faster then XP Pro. It seems to work better with most of my applications. It definitely works better with Office 2007, which was slow with XP. I have not had any operational problems. I did have a problem with the Firewall of Microsoft's Live OneCare, but found the solution in a Web search.

The only cons of Vista was a lack of support for my five year old lexmark printer. Lexmark has informed me that they will not provide Vista drivers for a "legacy" printer. No more Lexmark printers for me!!!!!
I just purchased a Canon printer on eBay. Vista is supported and the Canon has better features and cheaper ink.

I work in the computer field and will have to deal with Vista, so I had some incentitive to upgrade. So far, I've had many more problems with XP Service Pack 2.
