If you have a very tall ceiling in your living or great room, I like the majestic 72" wing span on some of the newer fans.

My favorite is the original Hunter with black or brown housing and wood stained blades. It's a heavy fan with a lifetime warranty. Very traditional.

I love ceiling fans, and am always on the lookout for interesting ones. This is one of my favorites, not just because it looks cool, but because it moves a ton of air, even on the lowest setting. The center lighted part is made from frosted mosaic glass. This one has gray glass, but there's another identical model with brown/gold colored glass. The fan is by Fanimation. Rather than looking like a fan with a light kit, it looks more like a light with a fan kit.

We have this fan in our great room (in antique brass). It is very nice. No wobble at all also.

For the $$$, I second the vote for Hunter original. Very solid. I like that you are paying for the fan and not the light fixture. I do not like lights on fans, and they seem to be included on more fans now, rather than being in a separate kit. I do not want to pay for something I don't need.

Another vote for the Hunter Original. Have used the one in our new house for about 6 months, and it works and looks great.

One thing to keep in mind with the Hunter oripginal -- it weighs a ton and has to be installed directly into the rafters or else you need a special bracket to hold it.

I have a Modern Fan Company fan, the Cirrus, but I also like the Ball fan. You can get wood blades for them - I have maple blades which soften the look and blend in well with the wood ceiling (sorry, no pic).

I have 3 white Hunter outdoor fans on covered porches. The fans get zero sun.

Unfortunately, after 2.5 years, the blades have turned yellow. All of them. They were a white plastic of some sort. Now they are yellowed, and the rest of the fan and all the trim on the home is white. The fans look like crap.

I called Hunter and they only have a one year warranty and told me too bad, basically.

I won't be buying Hunter any more.

Heck, I could have bought Hampton Bay outdoor fans for 1/3 the price.

sweet tea, you're right about the Hunter outdoor fans. I put 10 (no, that's not a typo) on a porch and balcony in 1995. They still work, but they don't look great. The Original is an entirely different fan. I had 2 under a porch for 16 yrs. They still worked AND looked good in spite of the fact a dove nested on one of them every year! In my new house, I'll put the Originals on the porch. Like you, I'll never buy another outdoor Hunter.
