Have any experience with dropping AT&T phone and keeping DSL?

I haven't gotten any legitimate calls at my AT&T number in months and it is costing me about $20 or so per month.

I called AT&T and they said I could just drop my phone and keep my DSL - however - I like to check on what the customer service people say whenever possible.

Have you any experience with dropping AT&T phone and just keeping the DSL? Were there charges associated with the change? They say not. Did the DSL continue to function without incident?
