AT&T DSL connection problem

My friend told me she wasn't able to get an internet connection with AT&T starting two days ago and then low and behold, I go to sign on this morning and I can't get a connection. I don't know if it's just a coincidence or if something's going on with AT&T. I did some looking around and found something on my computer that says "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirement of the network". I also noticed the "wireless" light is not lit up on my modem. My mother's computer is plugged into the modem and it works fine, but mine doesn't seem to be picking up a wireless connection. Any ideas what could be wrong? BTW, my teenage son used my computer after I went to bed last night. Could he have done something?

You could try to Reboot the computer first if that is un successful try right clicking on the 2 small computer icons down by clock and select repair connection, and or try turning Modem on / off. These are just some things you can try.

It's the phone company, a human always answers the phone (when you get to the end of the automated directory tree that all companies have). I've always had excellent tech support response from ATT and its predecessor Pac Bell for terrestrial service. The few times I've needed a technician to come out, I don't think the phone-in call took more than a few minutes. They first run automated diagnostics and failing any useful info from that, they immediately tell you what time slots are open in their schedule. As with any tech support call on any matter, to save yourself time, you need to quickly assess whether the person on the call is the proverbial school nurse, or instead someone who has the knowledge to address the issue. BS is BS, no matter what the subject matter. Maybe the service isn't so hot in other parts of the country.

The results stated: Download speed: 40 kilobits per second I have just regular dialup - it sounds much better than the results listed above. Do I just have an exceptionally good connection? I am beyond the reach of DSL. I also don't have the cable option. Sattelite is to $$ for what I want. I have thought about the cell phone type air cards - is that what you are using above? If you go to a site that tests your internet speed you will find that your download and upload speeds are only a fraction of your connection speed. For example here is what I got on one test. Your current download speed is: 189.00kbps which means you can download at 23.63 KB/sec from our servers.

I called because I thought maybe it was the DSL connection and that seems to be working fine. Can't access web sites. They thought it may be the firewall. I can't access the trendmicro web site because I get the connection was reset message. I don't have a phone number for trendmicro. Don't know what else to do.

Yes, I am talking wireless. Donna, I had a two wire, that worked GREAT for about 2 years for my daughter, and she upgraded, and I used hers. It died early this year. They gave me a "black box". I " installed " it on the 24th of last month. Worked GREAT, till yesterday afternoon. In fact, I was online yesterday morning, with no problem, but could not connect yesterday afternoon. Since I can connect here at the library, I am guessing, I was right when I reported my modem not working... Hopefully a replacement shows up on my front porch soon. Meanwhile, I stopped at the library on my way home from a bike ride with Mel (22 miles). Now, home, dinner, and I guess a bit of TV. Later Moni

Is this a laptop or desk top model? If its a laptop, check and be sure the switch or key is pushed for Internet.

I am not by any means computer savvy just past experience.

Thank you for the suggestions. It looks like it was just a coincidence that my friend and I were both having problems. One of the filters on his phone was bad and that was causing his problems. After trying some of your suggestions, it still didn't fix the problem. I ended up calling AT&T and they had me delete the modem from my computer and then re-add it. I wrote down everything she told me to do in case it happens again, but I got the impression she did something on her end to make my connection stronger.

I highly suggest for those using DSL to have them come out and put a whole house filter on your home so you do not have to use those individual dongals on each phone, they do it for free and it really is so much better and easier.
