Connect Problem

Win 7 Home, HP DC7600 sff, all wired connections
Network Adapter: Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet
DSL modem - Motorola 3360
Router - None
This is a refurbished machine about a year ago.

Don't know the model number of the adapter. Can't get the comp to cough that up. Probly have to open the case. Anyway...

Often I have to renter the access number for the DSL modem (motorola 3360) to re-establish my connection. This only happens after the machine has been on standby or asleep. Standby after 10 min & asleetp after 30 min. It never happens while connected and in use. It is completely random otherwise. 2 times in one day; no problem for 2 weeks etc.

Sometimes I can push thru and get it going by repetative tries. Powering down and up isn't the answer tho it works sometimes but not always. Calling ATT gets it done eventually with much screwing around tho I'm not convinced that's any better than my repetative tries. Wiggling and swapping cables doesn't fix it. The network adapter driver is indicated as up to date.

This has happened with 2 new modems. ATT always says the connection is good thru the modem.

One other thing occasionally I get a screen says (approximately):
Can't open page
URL is OK
Everyting else is OK (cannot recall all)
There is a drawing of a disconnected electrical plug.

I'm beginning to think in might be the network adapter. Could it?
