New Connection Problem

The last couple of days I've had trouble loading a few sites that I've used regularly for years. They just never get there. Finally noticed that they all hang when it gets to "waiting for connect.facebook.net..."

Possibly a problem with FF10? I've goggled it, and several others have the same problem, but no solution that I can see. Did see a mention of disabling it via ABP (which I have), but not sure how.

Appreciate any help or advice!

azinoh...never thought of that! Just tried IE and Google Chrome...same no result.

Mikie thanx- OK I reset the winsock and the int ip. I downloaded a newer driver for the adapter but Windows 7 says my current driver is up to date and I cannot convince it otherwise or force the update. This comp was refurbished FWIF and was originally set up with XP Pro. Now has W/7 Home. The MS W/7 checker-outer that I ran B4 installing never found this adapter as a problem. I found a site with a bat file to put in the start menu that would refresh the winsock at each startup. But I only shut off for a few minutes and start up once a week. Something gets douched out of the system that way not sure what or care really. I have googled this problem many times and others have it. This is the first time I have seen your approach. Just didn't use the proper search terms I guess. Now I see lots of sites with this info. So! we'll mark the date and see how it goes from here. 03-15-14 9:32 am PST ======================================== If I uninstall the curent driver can I just reinstall? or do I need to download it to have on hand?

For anyone who may be interested in an update to my problem... I finally managed to get a Bhutan Telecom engineer to stand by my computer and actually see it disconnect from the internet. He hooked up his own very high-tech looking box to my cables and verified that the problem was theirs, not my modem/router. And from the very next night, I had continuous, 24 hour connection. I rang him to ask what the problem was, and he said that they dug up and replaced the old cable down the road (narrow diameter and many old repair joins). They replaced it with a new, larger diameter cable. So now, I only get a drop-out every couple of hours, and that for only a couple of minutes before it automatically reconnects. A pain when I'm on Skype, but pretty standard here. But he still cannot explain why it used to disconnect punctually at the identical time every night.

We had a draft coming from our fireplace a while back. Whe had a fireplace shop come out to look at it - not knowing what it could possibly be. He suggested that we equalize the pressure in the house by opening a window in the basement a crack (we had negative air pressure in the house). Oddly enough, it made a huge difference. You may not have a basement, but test it - maybe there is another way to accomplish if it works. Good Luck.

Remove other breakers and look closely at all the tabs. See if there is a difference in the one tab vs. all the other ones. Take pics or report back.

Thanks. It tells me that the site IS up, but I still can't connect for same reason...and there are a couple of other sites that give me the identical problem. And I don't even use Facebook!

I've never had this problem, nor have I heard of "Hostman", but I'm just adventurous enough I would give it a try. Hope it works for you if you try it.

I have to imagine it some bug in the code or how FireFox is interpreting the code. The page wants to connect you to Facebook and when it can't find the appropriate information, hangs.

You might want to try Ghostery and see if that helps.

Thanks. I'll have a look at Ghostery, but it isn't just happening with Firefox...same with IE and Google Chrome. I suspect that FB has upped the ante and wants the whole world to join, so we can access our bookmarked sites.

This is weird. My problems all happen when using our home wifi connection. Last night I couldn't scan with MWBAM, Avast said it was not connected properly, and only Scotty was on patrol! I couldn't even access this site, although others loaded very well.

But working at site this morning on a different modem, no problems at all! Everything works as it should. Do routers/modems have security protection settings?

You mean you do not have security enabled on your router? Yes, indeed there are settings to secure your router. If you have the guide that came with your router, it should have the instructions for this. If not, I suggest a search on Google for instructions on how to set up your security.

Thanks, grandms...yes, I now have all security programs up and running again, updated, ran full scans and nothing bad found. As for the router, I am a naif when it comes to such matters, but our office guy is also a computer engineer who looks after this stuff for us. He's coming around this afternoon to fix it.
