Here is the new fridge, which we received today. The old range will be replaced in the next couple of weeks, and so this is my "before" photo. The color of the floor tile seems to look very different in the photo than it does in person, and I will have to see how it looks with a red range. I already like the new fridge a lot better than the old one. I like that I can get a premeasured amount of water from the water dispenser, and I like the accessibility from the French doors and the middle drawer. I do not like the bottom drawer, but I hope I will not be using that part very much - we have a stand-up freezer in the garage, and so most of our frozen storage stays there, and I will only put what I need for immediate use in the bottom drawer, which I expect will not be very much. Right now I have flour stored in the top sliding compartment of the bottom drawer - I use that in making bread, and I keep flour and yeast in the freezer, plus cornmeal and masa. I will probably put frozen vegetables in the bottom compartment, and maybe some frozen stock - I have chicken and salmon stock in the garage freezer. I will post a photo of the new stove, once it is installed. First my brother and I have to install a stainless steel back splash between the microwave and the current stove (going behind the stove), and I think we can handle this ourselves. We thought about putting tile there but decided that it would be too busy, and I want to keep that part of the kitchen pretty minimal. It is a fairly small kitchen, but not the smallest I have had. I thought about changing the color of the cabinets, but DB likes them the way they are and thinks they will look fine with the red range, and we both hate painted cabinets. I am okay with them if they are professionally finished with durable polyurethane, but I do not like ones that are done with gloss paint, and we both do not want white. This is not the kitchen I would have if I had redone the entire space at one time, but we have chosen to update it piecemeal, and I sort of like this process. Also, we get to get new things each year and let the design evolve. If I had started from stratch, I would have a different floor, but I am okay with the one I have and am trying to work with it.

I love white appliances. Easy upkeep and a clean classic look. When I was buying my range years ago I could not find it in anything but stainless. The model was being discontinued (DCS was being sold to Fisher&Paykel) and I ended up buying one online from across the country. They only had one left and they said it was in stainless. I was so disappointed but I wanted the function of that particular range so I decided I would make it work somehow. A day later I got a call. They were sorry but the range wasn't stainless, it was white. I did a silent happy dance while they offered it at the same price as the stainless if I would still take it. White was an upgrade that cost several hundred dollars more at the time. Still makes me smile every time I use that range or wipe it down.

We replaced our side by side refrigerator (old GE, replaced with Whirlpool) with another side by side, and am not pleased with it. Mainly because the doors do not open as wide as the old one. The ice maker in the freezer works good but when the automatic defrost takes place, the cubes melt a little and sort of clump up in the bottom of the bin. They are fed out through the door, and that is good. Our refrigerator is not a cabinet depth so maybe one of those would be different. Oh, ours is white.

@jabaz, I have a Bosch dishwasher that I love, so Bosch is on our short list. I looked at one of the their Refrigerators this weekend. My main hesitation is that they only have one regular depth fridge. I don’t think it has all the features I want and I’m not sure I can convince my husband to buy a counter depth one—regardless of brand. They just look so tiny inside. I’m short so it might be a nice change for me, since it is hard for me to reach things in the back of the top shelves. And, by top shelves, I mean every shelf except the bottom shelf. :) @Daisy S, that sounds like the same problem we are having. We also got the extended service plan and have been waiting 9 weeks for them to fix it! The service tech came out within 3 days and then stopped answering his phone. Every time I would call Whirlpool all they would do is call and leave the tech another message. They finally decided to give us some $ back, but it is capped at 75% purchase price not including tax or delivery. As you know, tax isn’t pocket change on an appliance purchase! My sales tax is at 10%!
