4x4' white tile bathroom flooring - out of style?
Comments (3)I'd have to agree that it's not in fashion right now. But that doesn't make it wrong, undesirable, or bad in any way -- just out of fashion. If you're remodelling for immediate resale, something fashionable is probably a better bet. But if you're remodelling for YOU, then I'd go with what I like, knowing that it will come back in style at some point. Personally - I like them. IMO, they're kind of like 'vanilla ice cream' -- a 'non-flavor' that lets you do absolutely anything else with the room's other elements....See Moreblack appliances out of style
Comments (11)I hope they're not out of style.. since that's what we went with in our new kitchen. :) A word of advice - stay AWAY from GE Profile dishwasher. We went with the top of the line GE Profile DW - and we both HATE it. Doesn't get the dishes clean, takes FOREVER to do a load, and the bottom rack is just junk! It's not set up correctly - so no matter how we load the dishes, even with the gentlest push back in to the dishwasher, the dishes roll around and end up in a heap! We're working with Home Depot on "returning" it, and choosing something else. Probably the Kitchen Aid I wanted in the first place - but was talked out of because hubby wanted everything in the same "line"; all GE Profile....See MoreWhite appliances and can't decide on white or dark cabinets
Comments (14)Whether you go with white or dark cabinets (personally, I prefer the dark, even with white appliances) is your choice. However, keep in mind that if your cabinets are in good shape, they will outlive your appliances. You're not enamored of white cabinets, do you want to commit yourself to them "forever"? Unless you plan to redo your kitchen when the appliances die, you will have a similar decision to make when you need new appliances...and they won't die all at once, so you'll be re-committing to the color over and over again. If the cabinets are in good shape and painting is intended to be your only redo of them in the foreseeable future, then paint them the color you want, not to match your appliances. As Rosie mentioned, you can paint the appliances if they really bother you (using, I think, appliance or auto paint or a paint meant for metal). The bottom line is this: If the cabinets are not going to be replaced when your appliances die, paint them to please you, not the appliances. Then, for your appliances....(1) patiently wait for them to die and replace them with black or stainless, (2) sell them on Craigslist and then buy new, or (3) paint them now. I would wait b/f I decided what to do w/the appliances until you've painted your cabinets...then make the decision based on how you think they look! (If it were me and I didn't like them, I would probably go with option (2) or (3).) (If your cabinets are in only fair or poor condition, then you may be replacing them sooner than you think/plan! So, if you're willing to live with white for a couple of years, then it might not be so bad. Oh, and if they are in only fair or poor condition, don't put an expensive countertop on them now...it would be a waste of money b/c existing countertops very, very rarely fit new cabinets...even w/the same layout...and if you end up replacing cabinets, I recommend looking closely at your layout and changing it to be more functional if it's not ideal now.) Good luck!...See Morewhat will everyone do when white cabinets is out of style?
Comments (17)No one has mentioned the pink tile floor - that really is the odd duck imho and a lighter, brighter floor would reflect a lot more light - in a simple, non busy pattern mayybe even a plain marmoleum in a light tone. In answer to your question, it's true some version of white cabinets will probably always exist but slapping white paint on everything and anything is a fad which will pass. Anyone who has been on ths.gardenweb for the last 15-20 yrs will recall the fad for slapping java gel stain on kitchen cabinets thinking it was so hip and timeless - where are those kitchens now? Landfill probably LOL. Maybe it's a generational thing - those of us who spent our early adulthood in dumpy dingy old apartments painted in what was called "Landlord White" dont really equate dingy old white paint with "brightness" . It was in these funky old apartments where I became aware of 1) how fast the fresh white turned dingy and chippy, and 2) there are only so many layers of paint you can put on a surface before it gets really ugly....See Moreeverdebz
