GE gas oven suddenly taking longer to warm up?
Comments (5)Look behind range. Gas valve should be fully open. It is a possibility, albeit quite remote, that valve could have been partially closed when the range was moved back into place. Barring that unlikelihood, your prolonged preheat is either because the burner is 1, not turning on, 2, is turning on but with too small a gas flow, or 3, is being prematurely shut off prior to reaching baking temp. Taken in order, the first condition, failure to ignite within a suitable amount of time, is by far the most common problem, and it is where you should check first. The oven ignitor is a glow plug type that once it reaches the proper temp allows gas to flow to the burner. The sign of this being the cause is a constant glow down by the burner that goes on for many minutes but no gas flows. Turn your oven knob to 350. If you have not heard the gentle whoosh of gas ignition within a couple minutes, it is almost certainly the ignitor causing your problem. If you hear the ignition right away, but the oven does not reach the proper temp, you really need to call a tech. But replacing the ignitor is usually not too hard. Remember, always unplug your range prior to touching electrical components and use caution handling the ignitor. It is the round style on your range (if I checked the part correctly) and they are fragile....See MoreMicrohood convection + range/oven convection?
Comments (1)I need to order my appliances soon and am thinking the same thing. I am looking at a Jenn Air range with convection and the OTR microwave with convection and speed cook. I'm by myself, so I figured I could use the OTR for everyday. I also have company quite often, so it would be like having two ovens. Not sure if I need two convections though. There isn't that much difference in price between the Jenn Air range with convection and without. The convection has a few more options, temp probe, warming drawer, special burner, so I'm looking at that too....See MoreBlue Star oven takes FOREVER to get hot...
Comments (42)We are moving from a house with a lacanche volnay and much smaller oven, which i LOVE, to a new home with a 36” blue star and this heat up and large oven size is my primary concern. i picked the lacanche over blue star 12 years ago, and have never regretted it. the volnay is like a speed oven, speedy heat up, great convection and fast cooking. roast veg in 30 min for everthing. i think the burners will be fine, though the lacanche often had too much fire power. hope i like the blue star and the oven serves us well and dont have problrms with it. perhaps remind myself that the views in the new house are worth it!...See MoreCuisinart Combo Steam Convection Oven Follow-Up
Comments (34)I wonder if it is a problem only if the oven doesn't get used often and the water sits in it for a long period of time without being replaced. ann_t, i think you hit the nail on the head. I use my espresso maker often, but for a while I didn't, and noted a layer of black mold-looking stuff at the bottom. I leave filtered water in it, but if left long, it's emptied, cleaned, and left dry. I've read a few rare comments on the full sized steam ovens having mold inside. Again, this was due to the user allowing moisture to stand inside something, not wiping it dry but leaving it for a period of time unused, and it mildewed. Same thing happens with FL washers. Same thing happens with a lot of items where water is left to stagnate for a period of time....See MoreRelated Professionals
