odd deformed leaves on 1 branch crabapple

I have a Sargent crabapple that has been in about 5 years & has been healthy. Suddenly one branch is producing leaves that are very different from crabapple leaves, also discolored, quite yellow instead of the normal dark green.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on, and what to do about it? The tree is producing its normal suckers at the base; these odd leaves are restricted to one branch & as you may see in the photo, worsens farther from the trunk.
