Why is this one upper stem of my Dracaena shriveling?

I left home for 2 weeks. Watered the plant beforehand. Returned to find this one stem looking wilted, shriveling, dropping old leaves and rapidly producing new ones in an obvious stress response. There is a strange hole on one side of the stem as well. I’ve done dozens of google searches yet it seems I’m the only person to have ever had this issue. The other stalks are a bit stressed but overall find and the trunk is totally fine as well. What could cause this to happen to just one of the stalks? Should I cut it or can it be saved somehow?
