I love the one here in Blanchard - it is moving this weekend 9 vendors to 12 vendors... right on the main highway at the corner of the highway and Madison. Nice small town, local, and good stuff for good prices.

I still need to check out the one here in Blanchard. We tried to go to it back in April because we read online that it started April 15th. Well, it actually started May 1st, so all we saw was an empty lot, lol. Don't believe everything you read on the internet!

I accidentally stumbled onto the Norman farmer's market once when I was at the fairgrounds for something else, and I liked the selection they had. I wish I had more time to look around. I'd like to check out the one up in OKC sometime, too, because I think that's where Sunrise Acres goes.

I was wondering about the one in OKC. Is it the biggest one? Anyone around know about or have a veggie/fruit stand around here?

When I was a kid I once sold some squash to the local grocery store in Blanchard, and I sold my potatoes from a chair and table by my road in Blanchard.

If you want some really cheap but good produce, there is a guy that I am friends with that sells Sat mornings at Coweta.

OKC OSU the biggest ? Edmond's may be bigger maybe pricier.
Folks here may get a kick from the news that the former Edmond employee has be charged with embezzling $7000 from the vendors fees.

I've read some stuff on this forum about the Edmond market. Don't really like what I've heard so I probably won't go there. I'll check that out PunkinHead.

Zone 10, I think I just never put the correct one in. I could be growing my own coffe and complaining about how the monkeys are really bad this year.

I once was a very frequent purchaser at the OKC Farmer's Market. It was a Saturday ritual many years ago. I haven't visited it in the last 3 or 4 years, but I know that I came to depend on certain "stands" for certain veggies when I lived in OKC. Sterlings is by far the BEST overall place to buy fresh produce at the OKC Market off of Sheridan. This place was established back in the 50's by Mr. & Mrs. Sterling and their daughters have kept it going since their parents passing. They can tell you where and how fresh every single item is that they carry. It's the "go-to" place from early spring until late fall. I've even had them reserve boxes of cukes or peppers for me. I've shopped there so long that a coupla years back when I went in, one of the daughters commented to me that she was glad I was bringing my g-kids because she remembered when I brought my daughers with me. How often do you hear that in this day & age?

Angel's was another that I could count on for fresh peppers & tomatillos. Sometimes even better melons. The woman that runs this is authentic hispanic. This one is right across from Sterlings back when I went there often.

There are (were) several other stands that were good choices for plants. The only problem I ever had was the abundance of pill bugs. As long as you're prepared to deal with those, I don't think you'd ever be disappointed with your purchases. Back in the day..."Red Dirt" plants had a stall there. They may still.

Well worth the trip, IMO. Now you're making me homesick. The Norman market is nice...and good buys...but I've never found one like the OKC Farmer's Market off of Sheridan.

Hi, I go to the OKC Farmers Market. They are good and the people are very generous and friendly. The plants are grown locally (Guthrie) in that first large area located right off 10th street when you first enter and thats the one we go to. They often throw in extra plants and fruits etc just to get rid of the really ripe ones and thats a treat for us. Once they handed us a large Isreali melon just because I said I'd never had one for us to try. It was the best melon I ever had but they haven't carried them since for some reason.

At the end of the season, all the plants are half price and I take advantage of that too then sometimes they will throw in some other plant with it for free to get rid of it.

I like the atmosphere and the changing seasons there. Its like a blast from the past for me.

I love the Guthrie Farmers Market. It's on the small side, but it's cheap and all the produce is amazingly good. None of the vendors use pesticides, but they aren't Certified Organic (I don't think they can afford the $10,000 price tag). Everything is so good there though.

If you are out in the NW OKC area, I might suggest Molly's Garden. They are pesticide-free and sell at Mercy Hospital's Farmer's Market (Memorial & Meridian on Mondays, 7-11am), the newly-reorganized Bethany Market (Saturdays 8am-12noon, at 38th & Asbury), and from their garden at 150th & Sara Rd. (Saturdays from 8am-4pm and Tuesday evenings from 5:30-8:30pm). I bought beets from them today, and heard that (at this point) they are expecting a bumper crop of corn when it comes in - I'm excited!

Does anyone know of a farmers market that sells a lot of superb heirloom tomatoes, seeing how I might not get any from my plants yet again this year. I went to okc market 3 years ago, not sue it may have been too early in the summer, the tomatoes weren't any good.

It might be a tough year in the Tulsa area for heirlooms , at least the larger ones, since the temps went from cold to hot with the flip of a switch. I am only going to get about 40 lbs off my 12 plants unless the cool spell this week gets them to set some fruit.

Boy you are right " scottokla"! I only grow one heirloom, being Cher. purple.& I have few fruit on my 100 plants. The other 300 plants are big beef ,new girl and cerlieberty.

My hybrids have set tons of fruit compared to my heirlooms. I planned ahead for drought and planted a lot of hybrids this year, or I wouldn't have harvested very many tomatoes so far.

OSU-OKC (Saturday on Portland between NW 10th and Reno)is all Oklahoma grown and there are a couple organic producers. They also set up on Wednesday afternoon/evening on NW 63rd just wests of Western. Urban Agrarian is also great. . . much smaller, but really quality product. I believe they are at Saint Anthony's (parking lot on East side) on Wednesdays, and I know they are in the lot at Cheever's on Sunday afternoons (great "after-Church" stop!). I believe they may have an Edmond stop as well. . .you can check their web site.

Just back from the OSU-OKC Market near Chesapeake on NW 63rd St in OKC. Thought I'd give a price report on what I bought, as I don't know what is the norm for other areas. After working so hard to "grow my own" this year, I consider all of these absolute bargains!

Tomatoes $2.75/lb
Onions $1.75/lb
Zucchini and yellow squash $1/lb
Stratford Peaches $1/lb (this was 3 med & 1 small peach)
Blackberries $7/qt

I did not purchase but saw lots of potatoes (think $1.75/lb) and beets, some cabbages/kale, small amounts of strawberries, shallots, some kind of flat round pumpkinish looking squashes, few cucumbers. They also had eggs, meats, cheeses, salsa/bbq sauces, breads/baked goods, etc, plus lots of plants.

Those prices sound good on the squash and peaches. I was disappointed Monday to find out the okc farmers market was closed on Monday so I called one of the farmers markets in yukon, I read about on this post. Their heirloom tomatoes were priced at $3.00/lb. I didnt make it by there before they closed though.

I don't know if I'll be doing one of the local markets here this year, but there is another guy that always does and once he gets his tomatoes ripening the price is between 1.00 and 1.50 per lb. He planted a lot of plants this year but they are slow to set fruit, like everyone else's here. He also has a lot of other stuff. It is at the Coweta market like I mentioned earlier and is Saturday 8-12. I saw him last Saturday when driving by but I could not tell if he had any tomatoes yet.

I would not pay 3.00/lb for any tomato and 2.50 gives me sticker shock also. It's not like they are blueberries!

We stopped, for the first time, at the Blanchard farmer's market yesterday because of the things I had read here. It was great. Such variety in a small market.
