Colors Shine at High Point Market
High Point 2011: Saturated color (and lots of purple) leads the charge at fall's biggest furniture fair
I love rich, saturated and luscious color, and I was not disappointed at Fall 2011's High Point Market. Colors this year are bright and vibrant. One of my favorite colors is purple, leaning toward the plummy tones. I hope you love purple too, because like it or not, here it comes! If purple just isn't for you, check out these photos I took at High Point this fall to see which colors are hot and how to mix them.

This was one of the most color-saturated displays I saw at market: rich raspberry grasscloth wall covering, paired with citron chairs and a little turquoise thrown in for good measure. Lillian August showroom at Hickory White.
I loved this purple, velvet sofa with orange, black and white! When using lots of color, having a healthy dose of white and/or black gives the room some definition — a little like punctuation. Also at Lillian August showroom at Hickory White.
Pantone's color of the year for 2011 is honeysuckle, and it is used to dramatic effect with black, white and silver in this showroom vignette. These beautiful pieces were found at Dorya.
Orange is very popular now. I particularly like it in this strong persimmon shade along with soft turquoise.
Gray is favored as a neutral in shades ranging from soft, silvery grays to deep charcoals. Pair it with sunshine yellow and you have a fresh, up-to-date look. From Vanguard.
Purple was everywhere and on everything! This stunning chandelier from Cyan also comes in red or turquoise, but purple is currently their best seller.
A contemporary wingback chair from Selva is sumptuous in deep purple cut velvet. This upholstery fabric would work just as well on a very traditional piece.
Warming up to purple, but don't want anything very bright? You might like a more muted shade like this soft, brownish purple. It looks particularly sophisticated with silver and gray. From Oly.
If you are timid about color, then using a strong black and white theme will allow you to add a hit of color in as small or large a dose as you feel comfortable using. A patterned rug, persimmon pillows and a few accessories pack plenty of color-power into this vignette. Lillian August showroom at Hickory White.
If bright orange is too much, you can tone it down to a soft shade and blend it with brown and beige for a very warm feeling. At Vanguard.
I couldn't resist showing you this pretty chair from Taylor King upholstered in a crisp citron color.
If you liked the first room with its raspberry walls and citron chairs, but you just can't bring yourself to go the full Monty with all of that color, then this pretty lamp may be just right for you. Notice how the pink lining reflects onto the citron base creating a lovely blend of the two colors. From The Natural Light.
