Helen has inspired me..I'm going to try posting pictures of my orchids...

Hang in there! Now that you have your photos on photobucket, you're almost there.

You can copy/paste the line after the words "html code" right below your photo to insert a full size picture in a post, or if you want to post a clickable thumnail, check the boxes you want, scroll down close to the bottom and click on "generate html and img code", click once on the code in the first box to highlight it, then do a copy/paste.
In case someone doesn't know how to copy and paste:
Highlight the text by clicking on it, use control c to copy it, then go back to your gardenweb message and use control v to insert it wherever you want it.

If I left anything out or if something doesn't make sense, just ask.

lisalu - do you have kids? My kids love when I bread and fry zucchini slices. They would eat them every day. Now, no doubt it is the breading and oil that makes them so tasty to the kids, but still - to hear "More squash please!" or "Mom, Monica's hogging all the squash!" is music to a mother's ears. You can make the slices fairly thick, and so a small zucchini (6 - 7 inches) could give you a handful of slices - The kids would happily eat up several zucchinis this way. You can also slice them into the egg/milk a day or two before, if you want to harvest several days worth of zucchini and then fry it all in one go. Marinated and grilled sliced zucchini is tasty for most grownups. It's easy. Sammy, thanks for your response! I do love the flowers and can ask the person who gave it to me what its variety is. It came from a GW, Mid-Atlantic Gardening Board Spring trade a few years ago. It is the darkest, reddest rose without pink in it. Which is why she gave it to me. I'm not a pink fan. "Pickers" are what we grew up calling "thorns." I forgot not everyone calls them pickers. I have nothing with pickers! Not even some of the incredible, red Bayberries simply because of their thorns. I am going to go out and give this bush the stare down. But the ground it's in is hard and not terribly rich. I'll start with water and fertilizer. Ants: One of the banes of my existence. I was given 11 dumptrucks of dirt when my next door neighbor dug out a driveway. I really needed that for grading and was trying to figure out how to pay for it. A blessing. A month or two later, I had my fumigator over for April termite treatments. He looked at my yard and asked, "What are you growing?" I replied, "Ants." There were so many ant hills on this dirt, the dirt looked tilled. He was astonished and said in 25 years of this line of work, he'd never, ever seen anything like it. Despite him treating the dirt, and my 3 years of trying to stave off the millions of ant mounds,not only in the grass, they pop up in my Japanese Maple pots, around and under every hosta and hellebore, and God forbid I don't wet down and cover with potting soil any dead leaves. Under my siding, steps and flowerpots. I've come to hate stepping on that soft ant hill dirt. They've moved east across my acre and are making their home in my other neighbor's yard and garden. My point in all this is I've been spraying. I never thought about granules. What do you use? The Ortho stuff? Sorry. I always have a story. I'll get to work on my rose.

LL, Thank you! I love Queen of Denmark. Try her and you will not be disappointed. Disease proof, drought resistant, heat tolerant, heavy blooming for a long period, good vigor, and more. I must warn of the thorns, though. However, the fragrance that you should be able to smell across your yard will make up for them. Anyways, the peonies are just your typical Sarah Bernhardts. I planted them the first spring I moved in, and even with barely any water or fertilizer (and being moved once in the early spring), Those two plants have reliably bloomed lavishly.

Tracey! What you are making is very similar to a Dobos Torte (in Hungarian "Drum Cake") without the Dobos ("Drum") layer. It sounds wonderful! If I may be so bold, you may want to take a look at the following link ad actually put the "drum" layer on the top. This is an amazing presentation and will knock the socks off the recipient and anyone else who gets a taste. This is an orchid, native to Hawaii, called "hono hono." It blooms once a year, but when it does it is totally worth the wait...extremely fragrant!!

Oh wow ! that is beautiful, Missfourseasons.
I have 9 orchids...7 Phals, one dendrobium, and one Slipper ( I'm not sure which species). I really enjoy them.

Congrats on learning how to post pics. :-)
I use PictureTrail, but do have some pics in Photobucket.

I hope you are not like me. I may have to write this all down so I wont forget how to pot the pics. lol.
If I don't do something an regular basis I forget all the steps and leave something out.

That is beautiful. I know nothing about growing orchids. I see some in Lowe's, but they aren't fragrant and not that pretty. Does yours grow inside or outside?

What perfect timing to resurrect this conversation~ I just noticed today that my honohono orchid has started to have flowers again. Remember I said it only blooms once a year? Well...here it comes again! I'm giddy! When the flowers open, I'll post another photo.

Yes, Helen .. I am growing this outside. I have another fragrant orchid blooming right now ...I'm forgetting the name right now but the fragrance releases only at night. I'll dig up the name and post a picture...

After photo is in Photobucket,you can click on the little box and go to the bottom of the page, click select action then click generate link codes or just copy the HTML in the larger box under the picture and paste in your message. Clear as mud?
