chookchook2 - You're right. My husband and I keep everything and are fairly disorganized. Our two sons are the opposite. So this was true for us. And Alison - I like your triage theory. This will help me focus on not trying to do everything all-at-once. Very good article. Thanks.

I loved this article! I have operated on the triage principle for years. It was so heartening to find that somebody else also has areas that will die anyway.... I have a clean and tidy house and the kitchen I and bathrooms are very organised. Can't say the same for my desk though. Or the guest room, perpetually piled with boxes. We are reaching the stage when many of these will vanish, enter off to the farm, where the house is almost ready, or to dsughter's new apartment, also nearing completion. Then I can get rid of the junk, and papers collected over 20 years.

What prods me to de-junk is the thought that I am in my seventies, and if I don't clear up the mess my children will have to do it. And they might just consign it all to the tip, because it's such a muddle. Especially the papers. ...

My main untamed area is: closet, and shoes.i have got a larger closet with sliding doors ( wall to wall, floor to ceiling), But divide in half, between me and my husband.
I need to seriously and ruthlessly weed out.
