Thanks - I will stick with gooseberries and perhaps asparagus, then! And maybe try jostaberries (currant x gooseberry hybrid). There really isn't anything easier to grow. I planted a Northstar Cherry in the spot where the apricot sucker bushes were, and might plant a second. The apricot suckers never flowered or made fruit, so that was an easy decision. And, to make you feel like the Enabling Queen, I ordered miniature daylilies on Monday. I have always liked the looks of the Siloam's, and found Homestead Farms had two collections of them for a reasonable price. The order arrived today in very good shape, so now there are loads of new DLs to plant in the garden. :-) They will be so much fun next year when they start blooming. So my wormies can eat better, I have been spurned on to eat better for myself too. The rest of this post is just about juicing not worms. Omega VRT 350 HD has been my tool of choice. I chose it last week because it is very quiet and slow. I wanted to get the nutrition from greens such as kale, collards, chard, spinach, turnip, wheat grass, and beet. To this I might add something for added neutral flavor and liquid volume such as those long cucumbers, cauliflower, lettuce of all types, daikon radish and celery. To this juice I might add something sweet such as carrot or apple. To brighten the flavor I add one lemon or lime and a tiny bit of fresh ginger or garlic. I have made separate juices from pomegranit, green melon, grapefruit, a tiny bit of mango and apple. Still need to try bok choi, cabbage, cantaloupe, orange, pineapple, watermelon, grapes, cherries, wheat grass, pumpkin, butternut squash, zucchini squash, yellow squash, onion and any other thing I can find in produce. Bananas (frozen), strawberries, blueberries, raspberries all frozen work good for smoothies that are made in a blender with addition of yogurt, or milk, or almond milk, etc. Or with out the liquid for "ice cream". (I think the Champion is supposed to do this excellently, the Omega not so good). I also have but have not used in a long while an inexpensive squeezie juicer similar to the one pictured above for oranges and grapefruits. I will have to get it out again. Luckily when buying produce in bulk, organic if at all possible, it comes in cardboard boxes. Am I doing this right? Anything juice wise I should be adding to this for the wormies? My juicer has a steep learning curve. I spent about 10 hours watching youtubes on specifically how to use this juicer. If I had not I would have had difficulties with it. It needs items such as kale, celery or apples cut up into small pieces. People who want to put a few whole kale leafs in then the whole celery bunch in and then a whole apple might prefer to select a different style of juicer. I have a yard-sale juicer, similar to first link... works fine when making large batch of real lemon-ade for a trip to the beach. A little OT, but still on lemons. SIL used to do Pampered Chef demos. When she stopped doing that had TONS of freebies... gave me an apple peeler/slicer/corer. Was getting ready to juice a LOT of lemons for lemon-ade and thought... wish I had a need for lemon zest right NOW!?! I pulled out apple gizmo, swung the slicer/corer part out of the way and ended up with a HUGE pile of zest ribbons. I let it air dry for a few days until crispy, then ground in food processor till a powder. Made "lemon-pepper" that was NOT mostly salt like stuff you buy in the spice section of supermarket.

Summerfan, SWMBO is a goddess-like leader of a fictional primitive tribe in the 19th century novel She. It stands for She Who Must Be Obeyed, which was more recently popularized by the fictional character Rumpole of the Bailey, who called his formidable wife that (pronounced "Swimbo"), behind her back. And that being the case, maybe the best compromise is the crank style one after all. There's repetitive motion, but not really elbow grease. Lascatx, that's the kind of juice press I bought for pressing the excess water out of spinach for strata!
