Darn peach tree borers!
Comments (7)Yeah I need to get some more triazicide! Thats what I forgot to buy today!! Damnit! Dont you ever have that feeling when your at the store and you know you need something but you cant remember what? Anyways, yes I think it might be the OFM...I have been seeing many little greyish moths fluttering around the trees. The damage and the little worm looks the same too. So do I have to wait until it emerges to get it? Or can I go around and cut off all the tips? I do know triazicide acts as a deterrent for a little while, whereas liquid sevin kills only on contact. I definitely need to get some more triazicide. So should I just cut off the tips for now? Or wait until they emerge? And should I spray the triazicide on the trees and fruit to prevent them from laying anymore eggs? Thank you all...See MoreDarn it, that trip won't happen this year.
Comments (8)Gandle, I am profoundly sorry for the loss of those buds. I know how important the lilac blossoms in particular are to you and Leonne, and I envy you your proximity to such a collection, even if it is an off year. I was actually thinking of you this morning on my garden walk with Izzy (pictured below). Your postings have forever linked you in my mind with lilacs, and my little dwarfs are just beginning to open up. It was raining ever so lightly, and the lilacs were opening in the background while my tree peonies were opening in the foreground. The smell was amazing. (It was strong and pleasant enough to even mask the scent of "Eau de Wet Dog.") There are three different tree peonies in this picture: The one in the background has purple-y foliage, the one in the foreground has green foliage and identical flowers, and there is one lone bud snaking up on the left... this is the plant that Izzy chewed to the ground when she was a little bitty puppy, and after nearly three years, it is finally blooming for the first time ever... I have no idea what color it will be. I am sorry I do not know the html coding to post Scratch 'n Sniff photos, or I would. I envy you your rhubarb success. I got some clumps from my sister a couple years ago from plants that have been in my family for generations. I shared them with a neighbor, who planted them in a pile of compost and now has an amazing crop, and planted mine and forgot to water them. They're still (barely) alive, but won't be harvest-worthy for at least another year. Again, I am very sorry about the frost damage. Those of us who experience winter to the fullest extent should be entitled to every aspect of spring too. The promise of impending seasonal euphoria is the one thing that keeps me going during the dark months. Perhaps this is nature's gentle way of making you rest your hands? Heaven knows you'd be picking fruit and flowers if they were there. Take it easy, and rest up for fall canning season! The cold may have zapped the apples and such, but you'll still have tomatoes, peppers, and all that lot to look forward to!...See MoreWho has the highest water bill? (darned drought)
Comments (11)$400 for a new intake and foot valve. $50 for a fuel pump to get the motor running $4/gal x2 each and every time I run the blasted thing...at least twice a week. $125 in labor to tell me the motor is running well but they have no idea why the pump is hinky. 2weeks and $75 in phone calls to locate someone who dares admit a) they have heard of a water pump, b) operate a business that repairs them and c) knows how to repair them...to find out the best guy lives across town, about three miles away. $300 in parts and labor, replacing seals. Just so I can have me very own tomatoes. Screw the bloody edibles, I can get them at a farmers market for $3/lb and let the grass go brown when it wants to....See MoreWhat Fresh Fruit or Vegetables Have You.....?
Comments (19)I went to the store already this week and bought sweet potatoes, green beans, red peppers, bananas, celery, broccoli, limes, lemons, mac apples, oranges. Still have to buy romaine, English cucumber, radishes, cherry tomatoes, avacados, onions (can't beleive I am out of onions) plums and hopefully strawberries or blueberries if on sale and some ripe bananas for the freezer. I also want to buy some SunMaid prunes. I have been on a prune kick for the last month or so. I hadn't eaten prunes for years, forgot how much I love them. Tjey are great for a snack because you don't eat too many. LOL Anne...See Moremurkey
