Sometimes I listen to or watch HGTV or the Food Channel... but most of the time, I'm in the ozone layer. Complete silence, I work in the basement by myself and oddly enough I like it that way. I love it when family and friends help me pick and break beans, and shuck corn, but other than that, I'd rather be in the basement in total silence. Am I weird or what?

I'm in the total silence group. And I like it best if I'm working alone, just get in the zone, no interruptions. Kind of a "canning meditation" LOL.

I usually start off with music but end up in silence. Sometimes silence is golden, especially when you have two youngsters and every kid in the neighborhood at your door. But I almost always need an auditory distraction when I am doing stacks of dishes. It makes it...not suck.

Lately my fave CD for housework-y things is a Canadian group called the Be Good Tanyas; I only have the first album, "Blue Horse."

DH gave me an ipod for my birthday. So I've been listening to a lots of Stones, David Bowie, Blondie & Pretenders. Before that, I'd leave on the Food Network. The TV is in our living room but I can see it in the kitchen.

BBC Radio 4 - a speech station, not music. Plays, readings, current events, comedy, documentaries. I find canning pretty boring really, especially the chopping and preparation. I mainly do it because I like making something myself, admiring and eating the finished results and I can't stand wasting food. That's why I never actually buy stuff to can, only use what I grow or forage.

I have a mixed CD that I made that includes music from one spectrum to the other....Nickelback, Maroon 5, Matchbox 20, KT Tunstall, Aretha Franklin, and a splash of Celtic Woman all thrown together. I put on my apron, turn it up loud to keep everyone out of my kitchen, and chop, stir, boil, fill, process, smile to my hearts content! Gotta love it!

Talk radio. Old rock and occasionally light classical. Dicing tomatoes yesterday drove me insane. I'm so stinking slow at things like that.

I can with my sister-in-law. She is 17, so we spend a lot of the time chatting about boys! Lol, but when we turn on the radio we like "the Old time Rock n' Roll", anything we can sing along to. (and boogie just a bit between chores)

Along with canning, I bake for my local farmers' market each week, so I practically live in the kitchen. I used to watch/listen to Food Network in there. But I recently invested in a cheap little DVD player, and now I can watch movies while I do my food projects. Of course, right now, I am working my way through all the seasons of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer.' I'm up to the beginning of Season Six. It sounds like a strange choice for a cooking soundtrack, but it works for me! --Gina

I set my television music station to Big Band/Swing. Then I put on one of my great-aunt's aprons and go to town!

Flora, I actually enjoy CBC radio a lot also. Maybe not exactly the same as BBC but there is world news, cultural events, books, movies, "Canadian" comedy, science, all sorts of good stuff.
I guess I like it all, from rock and roll to CBC to just good old silence.
