Baby Canner here! Searched but still have some ?'s

Hello all.

First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to read and answer these questions, even though at some point in time, they've been asked I'm sure!

I did search but maybe I just didnt see what I needed.

I am familiar with water bath canning/tomatoes etc.

I just received my pressure canner today. While I am very excited to can my bushel of corn I have, I have a few basic questions.

In the canning corn recipe it says;

leave 1 inch space after putting corn in..

but then it says the same thing for when you add in the boiling water (This is hot pack method??)...

so do I need to leave 2 inches at top to allow for water to raise the corn..and end up with 1 inch head space?

I am VERY nervous using this pressure canner. I have a glass cooktop and only after I ordered it, did I find that we shoudnt use a glass cooktop. Is this really correct?

We then (hubby/I) thought we could use it on our side gas burner on our grill; til I opened it up and seen a large flyer that says NO!

Should I scrap it all and send it back and forgo any pressure canning?

I am nervous about the pressure staying the same...please tell me it gets easier to do..cause right now i"m nervous and overwhelmed and almost want to send it back...
