canning dos and don'ts??

Hey everyone...new to the forum...but have read much and you all seem to know so much about canning...I can only hope to learn as much. I do have a few questions maybe you all can help me with. I make my own spaghetti sauces when we plan to have it for dinner. It's a rather chunky sauce, and the family just loves it. I was wondering if I could make my sauces and can them safely? I have yet to find any info on "chunky style" and canning..

There is so much conflicting information out there and I am afraid to do it. Some places say a pressure canner some say a water bath is enough for tomatoes...how can I safely can my sauce?? I play it by ear..and throw in things without any type of measurement. Am I being silly for even thinking I can do it?? One site said as long as I throw in lemon juice I should be ok..while another says pressure cook...and yet even another says water bathing is enough....I don't want to kill my family...lol
