Home canning on the rebound

I think this will be a bumper year for home canning. The biggest expense is getting started with jars, canners, pots and all that goes with it. As Emily said, if you can only the items you like better than store bought, it can be very rewarding. I'm cutting down some this year as I have canned apples, jam, and grape juice left from last year. I canned extra as the fruits were freebies. I ran out of tomatoes, juice and pickles. I'll make sure to do plenty of those items this year. I may do 500 jars, down from the over 700 last year. I do it because I love it. If I felt it was a chore I wouldn't can anything. Come summer, I will be canning something every day.

For all you newbie canners, Thank goodness for this forum and all the help you will get.
