Tomorrow night's low (for central Florida): 35F - 37F (Weather.com - Weather Underground)

Someone I talked to recently had an interesting observation:
"It's like the months have shifted. January was more like December, February was more like January and March has been more like February."

It's rather crazy to think that I have to protect my tomatoes at the end of March, but we have forcast to 42 tomorrow night. So frost is certainly possible for me. This is insane. It was 87 over the weekend. LOL.

I am a ws weenie too...lol..it is my second year,but I still have my issues!:P We had snow on the ground the last two days and I did lose some volunteer CA poppies even though they are on a south facing hill,oh well,I am glad I plan to ws those particular ones any way. I am sure I lost other volunteers also,just didnt notice those ones from the window! About a month (or more)ago I lost Lupine sprouts in their containers due to below zero wind temps,I wish I would have covered them,but honestly thought they would make it. Since,I have sown new seeds, and they are on their way to be being plants.:) I covered all of my sprouts the last two days,I figure the extra warmth will keep them growing or sprouting and prevent any possible losses. I only have tough love for my volunteers in my beds ,many of the seeds in my containers are ones that took me awhile to accomplish or are ones I plan to sell at my very first plant sale. So I didnt want to take any chances. I am so glad to hear all your babies are making it,this wacky weather is enough to drive me nuts,I cant imagine how they feel. 70 degrees one day and snow the next and now I heard the FA is saying we are due for another crappy May! Oh why, oh why, is this happening now that I found out about ws'ing? This year I was smarter,I think,and put actual soil in the bottoms of my containers and topped it off with pro mix for the seeds,it is less expensive and I am hoping my plants will do better waiting in the containers. I will do my annual poppies,nasties,cosmos,and others that are tender or like to be planted out quickly, over the next few weeks. Again I am so glad to hear everyone is having a great season already,I have to mention ws plants are hardier in the long run....I started Agastache Apricot Sprite under lights and ws,they all seemed to be making it through the winter just fine,but sometime over the last 2 months,the ones started inside perished and the ws ones are still showing some green! :)

Rita, That is what we all miss, isn't it? I have been very surprised at the daylilies. I am not surprised with new ones, and I pinch those scapes out. Emerald Starburtst and Red Slippers both put up new scapes, but to have an established one do it is different to say the least. I actually have a few places for spring...usually with plants I intended to SP and didn't get around to. The hard freeze we had bit back the zinnias in the iris bed, but didn't kill them. The big ones from last year succomed to it, and I have pulled them up and thrown them on the burn pile. They are total seed factories! The duranta erectas were not hurt by the frost which was unexpected. I had covered the one in the pot, and plan to move it to the greenhouse soon. But I though the one in the ground would die. Not so! The Mandevillas did die, but I had already decided to just replace them next year. It is warm and lovely now. Weather is a constant change! kay

That's what I did. Stuffed a sheet of newspaper inside each nursery pot before setting it over the plant. And yes, we needed rocks, bricks and boards over the pots to hold them down. The wind was ferocious out there. I couldn't believe how many more eyes have just poked up in that last day and even a couple had started to unfurl a leaf or two. I will probably uncover tomorrow and perhaps offer a drink, as I'm sure the wind has caused a drying effect. Cool looking patio Buff! Ours is stamped also, but it looks like stone. Hope all our hostas stay warm... Janet

Here I think it was a blessing that while the trees and shrubs were starting to leaf out, they were not as advanced as yours probably were. Still, I think it was the duration of the cold that could hurt: it stayed cloudy and windy with flurries and around 30 -32 all weekend. Then dropped to 18F sunday night (though luckily I think my yard was around 25). Now it appears Mother nature really wants to make this all up to us. The one thing I did cover was my arctic beauty kiwi, as it was fairly leafed out. Saturday, in the cold and wind, I was planting cedars at my parents. I am hoping they come through the cold okay as they may have started to be in active growth (as they were likely shipped in from a warmer zone). You definitely work more efficiently and don't slack off when it's cold outside. When it's nice outside I plant one plant, take a minute break, do another, sit there and enjoy the sun, etc. Glen

Yup...here we go again!! I heard on the news this March is the coldest March since 1996...17 years ago! Of course I can't remember that far back,lol...I can't even remember what I had for breakfast yesterday :o)

Good luck...hope it will be windy to keep the frost at bay...

I'm suppose to be between 37 to 41 degrees for 4 nights :o(

Looking forward to the cooler days..though I would have been fine without the mid to upper 30's in the forecast...guess I'll try and enjoy it, knowing what lies ahead in the next 9 months. I just hope all the plants make it fine...

I noticed there's a Freeze Watch for tomorrow morning for some counties north of Tampa...Levy, Citrus and Hernando to name a few...

I'll probably have frost tonight. I am soo sick of putting on and taking off frost cloths. Squash and tomatoes are in bloom. What do you want to bet, next week we'll be in the upper 80's again. My last planting of cole crops don't know what to do. They are having hot and cold flashes like me!

Woke up this morning (okay, I lied, I'm still trying to wake up) and checked the thermometer. 39F with a low of 37F. So, not as bad as I was afraid of but still colder than I would have hoped for. But looking at Weather Underground and all the temperatures being reported around me. Apparently I just narrowly escaped the real dip. Just 20-30 minutes north of me they hit 29F-30F. I hope those of you north of me didn't get hit too hard.

Most of my stuff looks pretty good and I didn't cover anything. There is a few things near the front of the greenhouse that look a little wilty like some baby moonflower seedlings. Both the white and the lavender ones look wilty but not the morning glories next to them lol. They will make it though.

The weather today has been awesome since about 10am. It's hard to believe that they're still predicting that it will drop back down to the upper 30's tonight. I suppose I should go protect my tomatoes... *sigh*

Dawn! I love your pots-a-jumble-thing! Too cool!

I was amazed that here in Seminole County my thermometer didn't go below 41.
I slept with the bed under the windows waiting for it to get cold enough to close them (I had just painted the bedroom and was airing it out) but it stayed quite comfortable til morning.

I think I'll do that again tonight. . .

35F with a low of 33F and I didn't do anything to protect my key lime. I hope I didn't just lose all the fruit and flowers that were covering it.

35 degrees here this morning with some frost. Should be the last of it...hopefully!

It went down to 48 degrees in my area on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, but it was the wind that had me worried about my recently planted mango, mandarin and lychee trees. Seem to be okay, thankfully. Back up to 54 degrees this morning, and no wind. Will give them a drink after I get back from my workout at the Y.

Yeah, I just took the dogs out and noticed the entire shaded area around where my Key Lime sits is coated in frost. The only up-side is that the pot is sitting in spot where it got hit by the sun as soon as it crested the horizon and in that area the frost has already dissipated. I will be watching it today, but I have a feeling I'm going to be seeing the leaves go limp as the day progresses and we go from cold to warm in a rather short period of time.

Wednesday 32 with frost. This am 35 with more frost. I hate to see what my veggies look like when I uncover them this afternoon.

I was surprised as well, here in Seminole. Usually it gets just as cold or a degree colder than projected. This time itI was actually a bit warmer. I did cover the Sobralia Orchids just to be safe.

It's not a hard freeze, but...
