Doug, I may have found something interesting..

While I was looking back at the pictures taken at the Oregon Garden last January, I think I saw something intesting...
I took one of the Pinus mugo 'Valley Cushion' and till my surprise I saw a witches' broom in it's higher left part.
Please, will you check this for me if this is true?

Just an update: The sport has calloused and there are nubs surrounding the base of the cutting... so I will keep it in the prop chamber for another six-weeks until I see root expansion. It's on it's way. Yes, Edwin, I only made one cutting. It's because I would've rather had one perfect size cutting than two small ones. Regardless, it's gonna grow. Dax

If you collect thimbells, they would look nice highlighted under the glass. At christmas you could display some of the tiny wooden ornaments from germany that comes in to TJMAX and Marshalls around Oct, Nov. For a girly look, you could display a nice bracelet opened up under it on top of your bedroom dresser, even a few lovely rings lined up would be pretty. Collection of broaches, (cut a strip of velvet for the jewerly to lay on)...Basically anything tiny can be highlighted under glass...

I've always had a real problem with giving rewards for behaviors that ought to be required, and for a pre-teen/teen completing homework and not lying should be par for the course and, IMO, not rewardable behaviors. I think it sets a bad precedent to reward a child consistently for what should be everyday, routine activities. I think a lot of children today feel entitled enough without expecting a reward every time they behave appropriately. What does this teach children to expect as they become adults? Example, as an adult, I do laundry. I certainly don't enjoy doing laundry, but it needs to be done. If I don't do laundry, I suffer a consequence...I get to wear dirty clothes. When I do the laundry, nobody waltzes in to give me a treat...although sometimes I feel I deserve one:) Now, I'm not opposed to giving a treat now or then for a long-term pattern of good behavior...such as, "I can't remember the last time you lied about not doing your homework and I see that your grades are reflecting that. Let's go see Lincoln Park." I just don't think bribery quite elicits the desired response. Sure, the child may comply with your wishes to get the prize, but the real lesson learned is, "I slacked so much that now I get a prize for doing what I'm supposed to do...yay, me!!!" I think you just need to find the proper privilege to take away for misbehavior. M04, sounds like Lincoln Park may have been it. Maybe SS's getting the picture now and will do as he's supposed to...then when Lincoln Park comes around again (and I know they will!!), he'll be more deserving of going and probably appreciate the opportunity much, much more.

I saw those, too and wondered how I might use them for mosaicing!They are very pretty but not very practical. I find myself looking at a lot of things with the perspective of mosaic's...is this what happens when you "catch" the mosaic bug? :) I have even noticed the pebbles on the side of the road when I take my walks...the ones that didn't get used in the asphalt! They are very colorful! I think I got it bad!!! :) Crystal

Couldn't possibly be a broom.Sams walked right by the
mugo twice that I know of and hasn't said a thing.Usually
you'll hear his broom - detector go off.I'll give it a close look
in the morning.Doug

When I saw the first pic, I spotted the part that you circled in the subsequent posting. It's hard to tell if it is a broom or just congested normal growth. Often, the branch of a broom is larger than the branch on which it is growing. Such a characteristic is seldom seen in growths that are not brooms. Keep us posted!

I'm sorry to dissapoint you Edwin,but it turns out to be a
somewhat conjested group of second year buds and is no
different from its neighbor branches.The entire plant received a vigorous internal pruning and clean out in Dec.
and the remaining exterior is visually enhanced.Its one of the more attractive mugos in this garden but still ranks
behind Jacobsen to my eye.Thanks for your alertness.Doug
