The Asian supermarkets on Stockton Blvd. between Fruitridge and Florin avenue in Sacramento have galangal tubers that I'm sure would grow if you planted them. Mustard is so easy from seed, I think you would be better off starting them that way. Most major seed companies carry it. Rather than try to bring a five gallon lime back on the plane (most citrus is supplied this size in California) you can order your keffir lime from the main California grower of retail citrus plants, four winds nursery, and have it shipped to your house. Ok, I see what happened. Yes copper at 4 tsp per gal of water will take care of it along with any anthracnose. I know how much we all want fruit early, but most of the time it is best to strip the tree of it's fruit until that tree is solidly rooted and at least the caliper of tree is about 5-6 inches. If you put your hand around the trunk and wiggle, if there is play in the root zone and tree wiggles, then it is usually too early to fruit. You always get more fruit in a four year period by waiting it out. My friend let his coconut cream fruit and I warned him. That tree is still not rooted properly after 2 years and is dinky, just for that one fruit. Too much energy went into fruit production and nothing left for the growth of the roots. I would never let them fruit the first 2-3 years in ground, not for a few fruit, just not worth it.

Hey Kristy, thanks for the update. I'm sorry the birds got to your Carrie fruit before you could. From all the posts I've read, people either love or hate Carrie and it depends if you harvest the Carrie at the right time. Just a couple of days ago, I was surprised to find Nam Doc Mai mangoes for sale at "The Fruit Shop" in San Diego. The NDM's were mostly picked green but I found a couple yellower ones and also picked up a few greener ones. When the yellower ones ripened, they were really good, when the greener ones ripened, they were much less sweet and lacked flavor. The fully ripened NDM's I ate in Thailand were way better, very sweet and flavorful. Simon

I have 18 mango varieties, which doesn't make me an expert, and I don't have a Julie, which is why I'm quoting other sources. Here is a quote from Pine Island Nursery: 'Julie' on a scale of one to ten Jamaicans rate this a solid twelve. In Florida it is sought after for its dwarf growing habit. FloridaÂs humidity makes this tree a challenge to grow, however. Fungus problems which lead to twig die back are common, making fungicide applications necessary for success. The fruit itself is sweet and tangy having somewhat of a pineapple flavor. The fruit ripens late June to July. It also says dwarf which is contrary to the other opinion listed here.
