Watering at first light and bringing the fuschias inside so they don't fry. Everything looks crisped but the agapanthus. Scorched hydrangea leaves and camellia leaves. The mulch is helping keep the water in. When the afternoon breezes kick in, I can almost hear the plants sigh in releif. I'll take this over Santa Ana winds any day however....

Fremontodendron planted last fall is easily killed with summer water. I lost three before I learned to let them wilt and show stress, and they recover by themselves. Mine are also San Gabriel and 20 feet tall. Al

I am seriously amazed that nothing has really wilted or fried. Im sure it also has something to with me making sure everything has plenty of water too...

My grass gets a little funky, and all i do is empty some of my old jacuzzi water onto it and it greens up for a couple of days in the hot spots.

If this 100+ keeps up for another week, then we're in trouble. I hear it supposed to cool down by monday, but who knows.

Last week in the Bay Area we had a couple of hot days. The weather this week was supposed to be in the 80's. Ooops, yesterday it was high 90's; today will be the same.
Seriously, do weather forecasters know ANYTHING?
I have to water more when it is hot, both before & after work. It exhausts me. But the plants I care most about this time of year are heat lovers anyway. Everything is looking good. My sympathies if you are in the 100's where you live.

I'm needing to do extra watering already... something that usually doesn't happen until late summer. But, so far, I haven't lost anything.

Most everything is now well established and everything is heavily mulched, so no problems. The hydrangeas which in past years were stressed are fine this year. Bigger root system makes a difference.

We have enough water(two wells)its the electricity to run the pumps that kills us. We spend most of the time in the 300% rate. We can't afford to run the AC as well as the water pumps so we suffer, so the plants don't. Al

All plants are good. Fescue lawn is taking a major beating though.

Hayward inland hit 102. For the second time this year and tomorrow might be hotter. Mango seedlings thriving while tomato plants are wilty. As you would think plants put in this year are stressed much more than older plants. Cycads are a little more active this summer. Roses like the heat. Ferns watered well are putting up with the heat. Some burn on bromeliads used to more mild sun,Brugmansias are droopy big time.

93 today and expected to be 95 tomorrow. I'm trying to reconcile that with the forecast discussion which says the sea breeze is supposed to kick in a bit earlier tomorrow...

hit 108 yesterday (friday) and its currently 108 today. Did some garden work this morning at 7:30am til about 9am. At 9am it was already 92 degrees! Im located in the three corners of Pomona/Claremont/Montclair.

Yeah, the plants are doing better than I am. No AC here at my place on the coast, usually don't need it. Went to the movies to cool down and rolling blackouts kept crashing the film and setting off the emergency sirens! They finally gave up and sent us back to our ovens ...., oops, I meant homes.

My mimosa tree is looking pretty crispy but it will survive. I gave my fruit trees and veggies a good watering last night in preparation for today's heat. It's too darn hot to go out and check. This morning my tomatoes and melons seemed to be loving the heat wave and it looks like they've grown since last night. The current temp in San Diego is 97.

It got up to 108 in my area on Friday. After another week of unreal heat. We are not suppose to get this kind of weather. Where is the fog - June Gloom. I water everyday lately and they are still wilting.

I am out every morning thoroughly watering my veggie plants. I think one young tomato plant is past help though :( I am watering it just in case, lol. All smaller plants are now under the patio cover in semi shade.
I lost some young herb seedlings, and a few radish. Just too darn hot!

All the roses are "dried" as they bloom. While this might sound OK -- for dried flowers -- the color is also leached and so they aren't pretty...... and a little crispy around the edges too.

My long haired kitty and I slept outside in a small tent to beat the heat Sat. and Sun night. Finally, the heat seems to be gone. I lost a few plants and all the pansies that were trying to hang on finally went to pansy heaven.

Fallbrook,CA. 108 degrees this weekend sat/sun 102/o at 10 am plants wilting, will water tomorrow morning,mon.,I long for the June Gloom, that burns off later in the day around noon. Plants recovering, though, except for the @#*@# squirrels, that climb the fruit trees and eat the fruit. apricots,plums,nectrines,peaches, also climb the fence to get in the garden to eat the tomatoes, I welcome any suggestions on how to KILL the suckers, any home remedies?

Even here in Long Beach, this past weeend was in the mid 90s. My small ceanothus plant withered. And my asarium (wild ginger just dried up).
In my greenhouses, some of my plants were scorched, a few have died. Even with fans and misters, it just got too hot, too suddenly.

We were a bit warm up here too, which doesn't normally happen until late July. I have been "harvesting" water from my washer for a new side garden. I have a front loader so not as much water as a traditional washer but every bit counts. I use a detergent that is safe for this and so far the plants are thriving. Now if I could just harvest from the upstairs showers without doing some major plumbing overhaul.

Haven't really lost too much in Long Beach, in spite of water restrictions, but stuff just isn't growing. Last summer by this time I had a beautiful garden. This year, plants are still small. Weird. Do you think it's the heat or should I amend the soil?

Probably the heat - plants will 'turn off' growth until conditions improve again. As long as they don't wilt, don't worry about them.
