EarthTainer 'Farm' July 16 - 'Best of Times; Worst of Times' pics
Comments (6)alisande, This is my first year growing cucumbers, and they are a hoot. Must be my imagination, but they seem to go from a tiny "pickle" to 8 inches long in a week. Surely, this can't be true, and I've got to pay more attention, but in the photo above, I was really stunned to find four of the Burpless that had developed so quickly. Guess I am used to the long cycles for tomatoes and Peppers. Ben, I will concur that Goose Creek is more "sensitized" to disease versus a variety like Big Beef (above), so that is why I grow a range of varieties. Next Season, I am going to try to isolate the Goose Creek Tainer far back in the yard to see if separation from the other tomato plants will help it resist fungal disease a bit better. Comments (19)Thanks Melissa, Jle, Susanelewis, Suero and Jacobse, for your suggestions and comments. I bought my 22 yr.old house 4 years ago. No probs whatsoever with the exisiting 22 yr. old toilets. I'm having a tile floor put in the guest bath though, & was advised that now is the time to change the toilet if I think I may want to do so down the road. I hate to replace a trouble free, perfectly fine-looking toilet with something that gives me grief! I have frankly never used a plunger at this house or the at the 100 yr. old one I owned previously for 13 years which had toilets at least as old as my current ones. Have never seen a leaky toilet. Obviously, toilets have always just kind of been there in my life; a real non-issue. Now that I may need to buy one, & have started doing research, my eyes have been opened to the potential pitfalls of toilet ownership. How I yearn for the days when I never knew that a toilet could be such a troublesome loo! Nothing is simple anymore is it? Like so many things...they don't make them like they used to (for better and for worse.)...See Morechick lit - the best of the worst, anyone?
Comments (15)Oh, yeah, the e-readers are great for travel (though last year I brought Team of Rivals and another big book on Lincoln as Commander in Chief on drive to Gettysburg). Just hard to read some things on them - Autobiography of Mark Twain was one but I struggled through it since it was so huge I didn't want 10-lb book on my lap. The Quantum Universe e-book just never made it too far though I checked it out twice, so I just picked it up in hardcover Friday (along with The Ghost Map that I saw another GWer recommend). Finishing Fast Food Nation now....See MoreBest sellers - Worst fears confirmed once again.
Comments (7)I am here, and I am an author. One of the big problems in book publishing is that nobody has done an in-depth customer survey in decades. You know, the sort of thing that the political parties do every 45 minutes. So publishers have no idea, nor does anybody, whether readers prefer books by celebrities or books by unknowns; whether green really is a color that is disliked on covers (a legend in the industry for years); whether books sell more written by/with covers depicting/starring protagonists who are women or men. The entire industry is flown by the seat of the pants. Nobody knows what they are doing or why it works or does not work. Brenda...See MorenanadollZ7 SWIdaho
