Yes, I had heard about doing it for fruit trees and this is what got me going. Did you get the idea from Dave Wilson Nursery in Nebraska? [link attached] Unfortunately, I only found them after I'd thought to put my citrus in the ground, LOL. @bada_bing: I did think about grafting, but hadn't done it before (though may yet try!) I was thinking something more immediate & was also keen on doing the multi-planting thing and seeing what happens. You bring up a really interesting point of rootstock compatibility(!), and one I'd only given very brief thought. I bought the Trovita a year ago from Lowe's and figured that since it was labeled a 'dwarf' as was the 4W Cara Cara, they'd be compatible enough. Still not sure exactly what rootstock the Trovita is on (nothing on the Lowe's tag mentions this), but it probably is the Flying Dragon (orange) rootstock as opposed to 4W's Cuban Shaddock (lemon/lime). Do you happen to know which of the two is more aggressive (I'm thinking the Cuban Shaddock)? I may just leave in the ground to continue the experiment and see what happens (after all, Trovita may yet be on Shaddock?), but if the answer to the above is that Flying Dragon is more dominant, I might yet take out the Trovita and replace with a 4W tree. I promise to take some recent shots of my trees and add to your June photo post(!), especially as I've also just added a Bearss lime as well. This too is an experiment, as I'm seeing how it does indoors full-time (at the spot getting about 8 hrs direct light that I was able to previously flower plumaria). My potted IML is in the only spot outdoors that gets >10 hrs direct sunlight; however, it is also VERY windblown and seems to be hampering growth (you'll see on the photo). bumblebeez...the picture is gorgeous! I'm really going to have to consider one of these. Thank you, all, for the information concerning finding a fragrant species; I would have never known there was a difference. foxesearth...I've been seeing something in bloom that began blooming just as the dogwoods faded around here. I'll have to take a closer look in some of the neighbor's yards and see if that is what they've got. If they can grow it in this rocky soil, then so can I! My oakleafs are just now putting on blooms...they are covered, especially compared to last year. The late freeze kept them from having very many blooms, but this year I'm excited to see them back in old form. Again, Thanks! Beverly

I adore Sweet Fragrance, one of my very favorites! Another Ping Lim rose that is not talked about much that I love is Grandma's Blessing. Bought it last fall at a university plant sale, bush wasn't much to look at but it was by Ping Lim and I wanted to try it. It is simply gorgeous!! A beautiful shade of pink with maybe a touch of coral, a bit different from the usual pink coloration. Photos do NOT do it justice. VERY healthy, blooms lots, very tall upright stems on the blooms. We have just had nearly 5" of pouring rain - trees are bending over, many of my poor roses are bending - not Grandma! Her one open bloom and many buds are as upright as soldiers. My only problem is which spot to I want to give to this beautiful rose. I may need to have a couple more. After all I have heard about Summer Romance, I was just going to give my potted one that I bought on sale at Chamblees a spot where it could just grow and not worry about blooms. Well.......it is just covered in buds! Maybe it will bloom in a big flush and then quit.......but I have to say I am elated to see such a bunch of buds on what I thought was going to be a dud of a rose - though its super healthy and grows like its on steroids. A rose that has just bloomed for me and I really like is Mango Veranda which might be similar to Easy Does It. It starts out a bright orange juice orange and as the bloom matures, it softens to a lovely apricot. Healthy foliage - don't know how big it gets, got mine last fall and its still in a pot, but growing well. Judith

I bought my Figi rose at Walmart on clearance 4 years ago. It is a totally disease resistant, reliable variety. I throw a handful of osmocote on it in the spring. No insecticides, chemicals or sprays Occasional deadheading. It receives overhead watering from sprinkler system. This rose blooms profusely. Minimal winter die back in zone 5 of Colorado. Heart song rose did not survive the winter. Grand Amore dies back to the ground in winter, but does come back and looks decent. No disease or fungal issues on this one either. Figi is by far the most floriferous of the 3. It's a very low maintenance rose right up there with my knockouts. Highly recommended!
