Hi guys and girls :o) Thank you for the advice! I was hoping it would be less complicated... :o/ But it seem that I have to wait the new flowering, then take new detailed pictures to show you. I have seen on HMF the pictures of 'Hugo Roller', but the flower shape is too globular. Flowers on my rose are ever-nodding, as you can easily see in my second picture. The colour in the last picture isn't the rule, I've posted it just to show how much it could be variable. Also, there's no records of 'Hugo Roller' in old italian catalogues, and it seems to be the same now everywhere in Europe. I was wondering about Niles Cochet, seeing the two older pictures of it on HMF, who looks almost identical. But I've never see first hand a labeled plant of a Cochet family (so curious, even Walter Branchi have never had these roses in his very large collection of Teas and Chinas...) Another quality of my rose is in her petals: they are very thin, like 'Mlle Franziska Frueger' or 'Mme Lambard'. That's why, I think, it balls so frequently. I have in my garden since few weeks, start growin', Maman Cochet: in a few more weeks, I'll be able to see if her foliage and flower shape are the same of my rose or not... Ciao!:o) Maurizio

Sammy, Bermuda's Anna Olivier was not very bothered (if at all) by thrips this year (new in March in my garden.) I really like her. No BS problem so far and a big bloomer & big grower. I just posted pics on Ingrid's "Spectacular Specimen" query. I'm really liking this "light colored" rose. I posted about the roses on your list that I grow when this post was on the Roses Forum, so I won't do it again. Mme Antoine Marie is doing pretty well here. I like her symmetrical round growth habit. Her flowers nod quite a bit and don't last very long at this point (2nd year) but all in all I'm pleased. I wonder why yours died. My Mrs Dudley Cross is quite ugly, especially her flowers, and everybody else raves about her. I'm taking stock, too, of my 2nd year roses. Blumenschmidt (1st year) is doing quite well. She has had vegetative centers (not bad just green eyes) all along and blooms a lot for such a young bush, doesn't seem to get BS much & the thrips weren't as bad a problem as on DdB which was totally infested this year and last year. I wonder if I should keep her since I've only seen a handful of nice flowers all year, and she's a big bush now. I'm really liking Blush Noisette though it's very young. I think it's going to be a good one. One that is VERY BS-free is an old HT, Mme Abel Chatenay (2nd year) and has been blooming continuously not in flushes. If you like magenta, Enchantress has been great (planted in March). So far hardly any BS & blooms a lot. General Schablikine is another fave, well foliated, minimal BS, blooms in flushes, gorgeous brick red irregular shaped flowers, doesn't seem to mind western sun. I should have been out in the yard today since it's been cloudy until just the last hour and 82 degrees, but I am totally unmotivated now that summer is here full blast. I would feel more pressure to deadhead my 2 Marie Pavies but I have two Australian polyanthas arriving this week to replace them so no need. :)) Sherry

A warning about Mlle. Kruger, she can be ugly in the spring with her balled blooms, then there are the occasional vegetative centers....now, once the heat sets in she usually straightens up and has lovely blooms but her misbehaviour in the spring has caused me to have a love/hate relationship with her. Rosette de Lizzy, is the opposite, pretty colors in the spring and fall but the summer colors are not attractive at all, at least not here in the blazing heat. Souv. de Pierre Notting is pretty wonderful most of the time. He does lose some leaves but doesn't defoliate. The thrips love him in the spring. One of my favorite roses. Marie d'Orleans gets some blackspot and loses leaves but will normally grow them back and she is a dependable bloomer and a bright spot in the garden. I love this low maintenance lady. Devoniensis is a beautiful and smaller white Tea. Slow to establish but mine is about 3 feet now and blooms alot. I can actually detect a strong fragrance on this Tea and normally I don't "get" the Tea fragrance. I have Arcadia Louisiana Tea and Sunset in the apricot/yellow color range and like them but they are still too new in my garden to judge. New whites that are impressing me are Mrs. Foley Hobbs and Victor Velidan. Again, too new to give an honest assessment of but so far I think these will be favorites. You have my other favorites and I see that you already have Maman Cochet so you are familiar with the growth habit of the Cochet's :-). Niles was over 12 feet tall here and still growing, if you have the room, a gorgeous rose, but he is a land grabber. Carol

In the peach to buff, to orange and red color range with pink; 'Anna Olivier' is the strongest scented Tea, that I have ever smelled and I've had the joy of smelling every Tea at Vintagegardens.com home garden and S.J.H.R.G.. Crepescule' trumps 'Perle d'or for fragrance, and in our garden is more resistant to disease. All year it is nearly clean. -Monsieur Tillier, which is very disease resistant in my garden where conditions favor p.m. over blackspot. I can only detect a light fragrance from the last two. I have loved Mlle. Cecille Brunner' longer than any other rose, both my grandmother and mother grew it and I have the original form, the spray form as well as the climbing form. The spray form does bloom far more than the climbers. I detect a strong fragrance, of damask rose with a tiny bit of black pepper as a scent note finish from all of them. except the white sport, which smells more like a floral blend with a touch of lemon. with 10 feet left of the spread, I would plant a 'Grandmothers Hat' for fragrance, it has a very resistance to disease, here. In cool weather this rose produces gorgeous lilac-pink blooms with the mauve tint being stronger. It has a long bloom season and the quickest re-bloom of any H.P. I've ever seen or grown. Oh what fun, to have so much room still available. I only water my mature Tea and Tea-Noisette roses c. twice a month in spring and autumn and 3 times a month in the hottest weeks of summer. I don't water them at all in winter, because we get a good amount of rain, usually, during that season. When they are mature sized plants, -the partial shade will lessen the amount of water you need to use. -adding 4"+ of mulch to the bed, (kept a couple inches away from the base of the canes, ) will also lessen the amount of water you use on rosebushes. I often forget to water my Teas and I've never seen their leaves droop, which would indecate dehydration. Lux. P.S. I placed a 'Mermaid' in my backyard against a fence where I have espaliered her size within bounds to where she will grow to be 4 and 1/2 feet from the fence outwards, and I've given her an allotment of 25' width. I adore this rose.
