Can you I.D. this plant?

This plant came up by some shade garden plants a woman gave me several years ago - this is the first time it has bloomed, but I have no idea what it is. Any ideas? It's about 4 feet tall at the top of the bloom and is obviously hardy in my zone 5 garden. The bloom has an allium look to it, but the plant obviously isn't an allium. It is blooming now, for the first time, in September, so it must be a fall bloomer.

I posted these pictures over on Dave's Garden also, and a member identified it as some kind of Angelica. I wonder what kind it is? I sure hope it reseeds, as it is a very cool plant!

Hi Karen,

I've been wanting Angelica Gigas for years. I've bought it twice. First time it got mowed by our sons, second time it wasn't Angelica gigas. Look in the perennial
galleries--the first entry. There is a picture of a June seedling.

Good luck in growing it. I didn't know it bloomed this late.

Hi! Thank you everyone who had responded to my post. I had finally found out what plant this is. It is a sansevieria cylindrica. It is one of the weirdest plants I've ever seen. I returned to the store and had asked one of the salespeople what this plant was (Which is what I should've done in the first place...). The salesperson was so nice, she even placed an order for some sansevieria to be delivered the following day. Again, thank you for all of the responses. Apparently "Green-eyed Susan" is a common name used for green-centered Rudbeckia cultivars, including "Irish Eyes" and "Prairie Sun." Wow! Indeed you have Angelica Gigas. Fantastic structural plant and rather hard to find. It will reseed profusely. Save some seed to plant next fall as it is biennial. This fall's seeds will produce leaves next year but not flower until the next year. -By saving some of this years seed and planting them next fall you will have a continual flowering plant(s). -This gets much attention from visitors to my garden. -Also a native plant! -Enjoy!
