Thanks, prairiedawn. My style actually is more of a rustic/modern country style rather than traditional, although I have a mix of everything! I used BM Baby Turtle in the powder room and laundry room, which are adjacent to the foyer, SW Artifact in the great room, which is just beyond the foyer, and SW Believable Buff and Camelback throughout the rest of the house. roseabby, I spoke to the salesman at Macys and he also mentioned a 2'6" runner may be out of scale. The problem is I do NOT want to cover up most of the wood flooring. Would a smaller area rug placed horizontally across the front doors, rather than a larger run placed vertically in the room, look strange? The two doors are 6' wide and the entire wood entry is approx. 10' wide.

I was watching a decorating show the other day and they said a rug should always be touched by several pieces of furniture and never be just "floating"... so I'd buy the size rug that would go under more furniture pieces. Are you still thinking of buying from Decorator's Outlet? Check the 80% off rug section.. you might find something you like there and you can save all kinds of $$$. Your office is looking great BTW.

thanks again everyone! I stopped by a local furniture store and she recommended a 10 x 10 sectional and a chair and a half. I think we could go either direction with the sectional if we go that route- facing window (yes, nice views!) or facing door (which would give more seating closer to the tv. To answer a few questions: this is our only 'living/family' space. There is not a secondary living room for entertaining. We don't entertain much and when we do we all end up at the kitchen island. We do spend a lot of time in our basement. It is a very integral living area to our house- two of my kids have bedrooms there, we have the secondary family/tv watching space, and a bar area. Definitely use! As far as the tv location we spent a lot of time discussing one side vs the other. Ultimately I think we are happy with the left side of the fireplace for the tv. As I said earlier, it is farthest from the main entrance to the house. Also as far as furniture shift I prefer to shift away from the entry rather than towards it. There are a couple negatives and one is the glare, at certain times of the year during late afternoons. Most of the time it's fine. We have a lot of privacy on the back of our house so we have elected not to have shades over the windows....but certainly if the tv glare bothered us THAT MUCH we could add shades to help that. Yes, there is outlet in the floor, however floor lamps are iffy because I have a special needs child who is older and has in the past broken a lot of lamps because he doesn't know not to knock them over. So, my other question then is lets say we do a sectional that faces the window (and therefore backs against the entry way). And so we put a sofa table behind it. Then do we have a second sofa table behind the other part of the sectional as well? Two sofa tables? Love all the input and ideas!

Well, we ordered our coach lights today. We will soon order some for the back of the house. Here is what we chose. I appreciate the assistance given. The one below is for the front of the house. It is in oil rubbed bronze -- much browner than in the picture. We ordered two larger ones to go beside the front door, and 3 medium ones (2 on either side of garage door, an one at the garage man door). We concluded that we need coach lights that did not extend too far (not deep ones), so we had to go a different direction. These lights have built in LED lights. The lights are made by Artcraft. Here is the ones we are ordering for the back of the house. There are 4 total along the back which is all one plane (not jogs out).
