Lady Ann Kidwell-size?
Comments (4)Left to its own devices, LAK will 'build' in the fashion of old Chinas, and just continue to grow and occupy a space; I also saw the very old LAK in Glendale that never received any water other than runoff from a lawn, no fertilizer and no treatments for fungi or insects. It had grown to the size of a standard garage height and about as half as wide. It was subsequently cut down to within two feet of its base and continued to thrive and grow. My own LAK which has to be twenty years old has grown to 9 to 10 feet tall and about half as wide, only to be reduced to half that size with no reduction in eagerness to bloom. I guess the correct answer to your question as to size would be: it will grow to whatever size you want it to be--at least in southern California....See More'Lady Ann Kidwell'
Comments (8)Barbara -- I don't know either. She's a California Girl, despite her lineage ... bred and born in California's San Gabriel Valley. So, in SoCal, she mildeweth not, neither doth she rust . . . but I know not, of blackspot. I saw a lovely old plant some years ago that must have been purchased right about the time she was released -- 1948. It had grown thickly, two stories straight up -- a truly remarkable sight, in full bloom. I saw another -- equally healthy, but far smaller, in an un-tended Sierra Foothills cemetery....See MoreLoud, possibly multi-colored, roses for cutting
Comments (44)I have Lady Ann Kidwell. I love it! Do you think your friend would like a big polyantha? For me, LAK is dark fuchsia/burgundy depending on weather. It was just a new little band last summer but grew well for me. I tried to keep the buds pinched off but it was a busy summer and I never quite got them all. This will be a good bloomer but, like most polyanthas, the blooms will not be big and full like an Austin. They tend to star as they age and look like giftwrap bows. I've ordered a rose this year from High Country roses that might be in her wheel house. It's a strong mauve/fuchsia on the website. It has large, full, fragrant blooms and is supposed to be on a tall upright shrub. Some flowers are borne individually, some in clusters. The name may intrigue her- Ruby Voodoo. It's a funny name for a rose that isn't red. I don't know anything about your friend's growing conditions or how well this rose is likely to do. If you have questions, you could speak to the owner. He is very helpful....See More'Lady Ann Kidwell'
Comments (8)I was just contemplating buying one this morning, although I don’t really have room, when it saw it on the Grace Rose Farm website. It has a lovely color. https://www.gracerosefarm.com/collections/the-nursery-at-grace-rose-farm/products/lady-ann-kidwell...See Morelandperson
