It looks very pretty at that stage, but when she's fully open, I'm one of the few (and maybe the only) people who really don't like this rose. To me she looks just plain weird, but then it may just be that I have weird taste.

Ingrid -- More likely by far is that this rose is not compatible with your high temperatures and dry air.

I've never grown it Jeri, but I've seen it in Ivy's garden, and his climate is much milder than mine. He loves it, but it would be a boring world if we all liked the same things. I think the Lady has enough admirers to guarantee that she will not fade into oblivion.

Jeri, thanks for sharing. Have no idea what she'd make of our relentless heat and humidity here but any rose this color makes my heart sing, and that graceful swan neck... oooooh!

Barbara -- I don't know either.

She's a California Girl, despite her lineage ... bred and born in California's San Gabriel Valley. So, in SoCal, she mildeweth not, neither doth she rust . . . but I know not, of blackspot.

I saw a lovely old plant some years ago that must have been purchased right about the time she was released -- 1948. It had grown thickly, two stories straight up -- a truly remarkable sight, in full bloom.

I saw another -- equally healthy, but far smaller, in an un-tended Sierra Foothills cemetery.

She is very vigorous, clean, and almost continuously in bloom here in dry heat -- love her, too.
