fertilizer settings for bermuda grass
Comments (10)Im in East Texas and yes there is some common bermuda in the yard in patches..I would say prob 15%. I put out some 13-13-13 product in some areas about 1 month ago mixed with bermuda seed and it seems to be doing just ok. This was before becoming acquainted with some of the strategies Ive seen here. For the wedding I am only planning on sowing bermuda on the side the ceremony will be on which is close to 3/4 acre so the rest is not important this year just the 3/4 acre. As far as how much work Im willing to do. Pretty much whatever it takes seeing that I want to over the next couple of years transform my small patch of land into full bermuda lawn, wedding or not. Work is fine just not massive cost. It doesnt have to be above average just because from starting point im at I don't think its possible. Honestly just want it as green and full as i can hope for in a short 3 months. Much appreciated TW...See MoreProper Fertilizer / Weed Killer for Combined New and Old Lawn
Comments (8)Where do you live? What kind of seed did you put down? Did you use a starter fertilizer? What is your watering program - how often and for how long? Lawn care is as easy as watering, mowing, and fertilizer. You're already overthinking it. This is the right time of year to seed a northern grass to minimize weed issues. Had you come here before seeding we would have suggested you water the bare soil daily to sprout any new weeds and then spray those out with RoundUp. Then you could seed without fear of getting weeds. But here we are. If you have broadleaf weeds in the old lawn, spot spray with Weed-B-Gone. If you have chickweed, clover, or oxalis, you'll need Weed-B-Gone Chickweed, Clover, and Oxalis killer. It's a different, stronger, product. It will not harm the old grass, but read the label for instruction around new grass. Forget about weed n feed products. They usually don't do what you expect them to do. The problem is when you need weed killer you don't need fertilizer and vice versa. If you want to fertilize now I would use an organic. You can use that at any time even on the day you fertilize with a chemical fertilizer. They do different things for the soil and plants. You can use the organic over the new and old lawn at the same time and at the same rate. Start with 10 pounds per 1,000 square feet. In 3 weeks you can reapply at the normal rate of 15-20 pounds per 1,000. But you do need to spot spray the weeds in the old lawn. Then around Thanksgiving or so you can fertilize with a high N fertilizer for the winter....See MoreAccidentally applied grass & weed killer
Comments (8)If you had time to post this before watering, it might be too late. Where are you and how green was your grass? I spot treated my yard this year with the exact same product thinking my Bermuda was dormant. Evidently it wasn't and there was definite damage. Unreal how fast my Bermuda filled in with more than normal amounts of fertilizer. My advice would be to see how bad the damage is and see if you think you have enough green left where you can get it to spread with fertilizer. Being you sprayed the whole yard, I'm not optimistic about it. Sorry....See MoreWeed Killer for Bermuda Lanes
Comments (4)How are you watering the grass in the spring: When do you start watering? How often and how long? You ride bikes on the grass? I'm not picturing this very well. You have grass that's 7 feet wide and 1/2 mile long? What for? Where do you live? Is there any shade on the grass? Are the weeds primarily broadleaf like clover and dandelions? Or are they grassy weeds like crabgrass?...See Morejtranger
