Siduron is safe to use with newly seeded turfgrass. It only prevents 6 or 7 weeds from germinating, the most important one being crabgrass. It only lasts about a month though, so you will have to reapply for crabgrass protection. Tall fescue doesn't spread to a great degree. If there is some grass in the patchy areas, then those existing areas will tiller and grow a bit, but it won't be like new sod. If your sod had KBG in it, as most does, then you might get some spreading from that however. You can use organic fertilizer any time you want. Soil temps are a bit low for it to do much, and even when it does it won't create a huge flush of growth. If you choose to use a synthetic fertilizer, it is way to early, and you should wait till May. Most cool season turfgrasses germinate when soil temps are in the 50-55 degree range. Right now your soil temps are probably close to that, but it's still a bit early. Crabgrass germinates a bit later, when soil temps are 60 degrees for 5-7 consecutive days. I use an instant read thermometer to check soil temps, with morning being the best time.

I'm sorry folks, I've been very busy finishing the shelving in my son's room since yesterday. It's just now that I was able to open up my machine. I think, morpheuspa is correct. I might not be providing enough water to my lawn. I applied SBM June 16. According to the tag, it says it's SBM with 47.5% protein. Yes, I remember okcdan's SBM. It was 47% protein. Maybe, something is wrong with the way I understood watering or something that I missed during my learning. And I also might have a high expectation from weather.com's rain forecast. From what I've learned, we should irrigate infrequently but deep once every 2 weeks. I always waited 2 weeks and hoping that weather.com's forecast would really rain. They always missed. Here is what always happens: they change their rain forecast date to the next day or 2, then I'll extend my patience another day or 2 hoping it would really rain. But lately, it never rained. It would but only drizzle. I just noticed lately that I now have dead blades. Could this be due to my lack of watering? Before, even at the edges of my lawn, the blades are very healthy and green, 98%no dead blades. But now, wherever I go, when I separate the blades left and right, I see dead blades. You can see it from the picture below. Also, I noticed that most of my blades aren't flat anymore. They're circling or folding. See those pointed by red arrows. They're also thinner now as if there is no water. When I step on them, it takes a long time before it goes back. I've also noticed that my mower blade isn't sharp. I knew about it when I saw the edges of all grass blades weren't cut nicely. Does this add stress to the grass? So folks, let me know if the watering I'm doing isn't appropriate for this weather now. Should I do it once every week or twice a week? The sewer monthly cost is what is killing me because it is calculated against the water usage. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not hosta, but several others were run down, in a true hit run. Someone came into our driveway presumably to turn around too fast, hit the gravel then skidded over a daylily, clematis roots, catmint and several annuals then hit a picket fence. We assumed the speed/gravel part because they took off, and neither us nor a neighbor saw this. They picked up the fence and righted it using plants they hadn't run over to hold it up. I noticed the squished plants (the pansies were goners, everything else has come back to some extent, the daylily only has distorted leaves to show for it, the clem is fine, the catmint is still stunted). Couldn't for the life of me figure out how they missed the fence...until it tipped over on it's own revealing the broken posts. The VERY NEXT DAY an elderly gentleman came to get some lily of the valley, and backed out over the squished daylily and pansies again! That bed has been there since we bought the place, seems that was some seriously bad timing because it never happened before that.

ok, my pkg came in, it's SO AWESOME!!!! i got gloves withe the rubber thingi on the bottom (yay) and they fit a little loose, so i have moving room!! plum trees lily of the valleys-white caladiums sweet williams gee i knew i'd forget, varigated hosta unkown plant but its a beauty black raspberry and if i forgot any, she could tell ya, oh my vic! thank you so very much!! i can't wait till them tree's get taller!! then them kids can play in them like i did when i was little, that would be so fun!! i loved them all!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! i planted yesterday in our slow soft rain we've been having for like 3 day's now. but my flower beds are filling up with water! i hope my seeds don't go down hill!! it says your supposed to dig them up, but i never knew that til later, but i live in zone 5 and mine came back and i don't mulch. YET!!! it's on my list of do's when my beds get their flowers how i want them. LOL yesterday i went creek digging and found a beautiful purplish looking flower almost like a monarda or something and monarchs were all over them, so i brought a few home, i love butterfly's!!i'm taking my gloves next time, i found some wild strawberry's, i love wild stuff!! hey hazel can't wait, you been yammerin on forever about this, so we've been sitting on pins and needles waiting now get on with it!! LOL na, i'm just feeling spunky for a bit today, LOL first time in a while, LOL i just found out we won't be losing out on the rest of our grant afterall!! we can use it in appliances and stuff. cool!! in 3 more years i'm gonna be very picky!! and not choose any fast talking contractor!!
