"When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail." I think that came out wrong. I was not hinting at anything you said. I was setting up for what I was about to say. My hammer is corn meal, which in the organic world is recognized as a fungal disease preventer and cure. The nail is your yellow grass. When I see the yellow grass, I assume it is a fungal problem. I can see where that could easily be misinterpreted. Sorry. YES, you have to wait until late summer to reseed. Why? Well you don't have to but if you want good results, wait. Seeding now will give you a yard full of crabgrass right away and later on, any grass that did germinate will die from the heat allowing the crabgrass to fully take over. If you want to fix that for the future, you could seed in some Kentucky bluegrass in the late summer. It will spread to fill in weak spots where fescues do not spread.

Day 30 with no rain in Seattle? We must be getting the rain you'd normally get. It's hard to believe it's desert here because we've been getting rain almost every day. Do you know what kind of grass you have? I think perennial rye is most common in Seattle. How much turf builder did you put down and how big is the lawn? I don't trust the spreader settings to spread the right amount, so I always calculate the amount I'll need to give my lawn 1 lb of N and buy that much. I then set the spreader lower than the recommended setting and make multiple passes in different directions to try to ensure an even spread (at least that's my approach when I use synthetics; when I use coffee grounds, I just fling them around the lawn). When you say the top is dry, how deep do you let it dry out? Just the surface, or at least a couple of inches? If you're measuring, I'd let it dry to a depth of 4 inches before watering. Unless you have very sandy or rocky soil, I'd try to go at least a week between watering, except in the hottest and driest part of the summer. Do you know your soil's pH? If it's way too high or way too low, you could have an iron deficiency, even if there's iron in the soil. Speaking of iron, do you know if there's iron in the soil? Do you know if any of your neighbors are having similar issues? Is this your first year with this lawn? If not, how was it last year?

From the picture posted I think it is dog urine. Brown patch has a grey like outter ring and the inside of the disease does not look staw color as your picture shows. Brown patch isn't a concern in bermuda either. Spring dead spot is a major disease for bermuda but that's not it, nor dollar spot. As far as when to fertilize, well if it's not above 90 and you can provide good water then for bermuda the time is now. A good fertilizer for bermuda is one with a high first number with 50% slow release. As far as the rest of the information on taking care of your lawn, try searching online. Bermuda is pretty fool proof and is good for people who don't want to fuss over their yard.

We have had a problem with what I would call a fungus growing in our lawn. They look like brown, rather flat, circle shapes where grass does not grow. I can take a little spade and dig it out and it pops out whole, looking like a ball. I dig them out and they seem to come back. If they are left in the ground they can get quite large. Our neighbor has some big ones. Any clues what these are and how to get rid of them so they don't come back?
