Hey there. Those UT mountains in the background are killing me! Don't get a view like that in NC, but it's lush and green here. Usually yellowing is due to nitrogen deficiency or overwatering. Since it seems like you had plenty of nitrogen, I'm going to guess overwatering as well. Also plants dropping flowers can be due to overheating, and I heard it got pretty hot in your area this year. My parents live in UT, and they only water 2 to 3 times a week during ave summer weather -- more when it's over 95. I have the overwatering disease so I finally bought a cheap moisture meter at Lowes and my garden is doing great, whereas before everything was yellow. Best of luck to you!

I know this is an old thread, but I'm having same issue. I planted Muncher parthenocarpic cuke seeds at start of January in my heated, lighted greenhouse. They have taken off and started flowering over a week ago. Lots of flowers, both male and female. But NO fruit set. Plant looks very healthy, and I have fed them with Maxsea flowering formula. I have even tried pollinating using paintbrush, but nothing. Tons of female flowers/ovaries but none grow. In another area of my greenhouse I have several Picklebush cukes growing. They are not parthenocarpic, so I hand pollinate, and they are doing just fine and have been setting fruit. Anyone have ideas on how to get the Munchers to set?

I wouldn't be surprised if the cucumbers were mislabeled. I once picked up a 4-pack of jalapeno peppers from Walmart and they turned out to be banana peppers. I'm coming to the conclusion that Walmart is not the place to buy plants, even if it's only because some sneaky customer is switching tags to annoy gardeners. Also, I noticed that there were some cucumbers that were a darker yellow --- and rotting, having fallen off the vine. Maybe some of these are lemon cucumbers; I have heard of those. But if that's the case, then perhaps I got a mixed four-pack because these are the ones I just picked today. I cut one of them open and showed it to my elderly neighbor and she says the one I cut open is ripe and ready to pickle. I'm just kind of concerned about whether it's safe to eat if it didn't get all the nutrients it needed. The green one is naturally more like what I'm looking for, and I think it developed after I doused the area in Miracle Grow. Ugh... I had to save this photo upside down on my PC to make it post right side up here. I don't know what's going on.

Asian pears, Pyrus pyrifolia, are no different to grow than common European pears. Just not as cold hardy :-) No specific pH requirements and subject to the same disease and insect issues. I see nothing specifically wrong with those leaves except perhaps some sun and/or drought stress. The discoloration does not look like any sort of nutrient disorder. And I agree that at this time of the season, stressed out leaves is not something I would spend much time worrying about. If you have concerns, just make sure all the leaves are carefully raked up and destroyed, although I really do not think you have anything to be concerned about. And 'early dormancy' might be taken with a grain of salt :-) Trees are coloring up a lot in my area and we won't even have a hard frost until late November or December. Coloring and leaf senescence/dehiscence is a response to shorter day length and cooler temperatures and can happen whenever those conditions are right. The tree will not be fully dormant until all the leaves have been shed.
