Keeping crape myrtle as a container plant zone 5

I just read through a crape myrtle container discussion however it seems more about getting into the container than what to do with it once it's there.

I purchased a crape myrtle at Lowe's the other day and they told me to take it inside during the winter like a houseplant. Can this be correct? I also posted something about this on the shrubs forum.

They're beautiful plants but this cultivar gets pretty large to be considered a houseplant. It is a "Pink Velour" with a height at maturity to be 6-12 ft.

Any thoughts on this?
