Know anyone with an Alpha gal allergy?

I have two close friends recently diagnosed and know of at least 3 other people with it. For those who don't know about it, it's carried by the lone star tick and a bite makes you allergic to all red meat--lamb, beef, pork, etc. The allergy varies from hives, gut issues, joint pain, etc. to anaphylitic shock. At least one person is known to have died from it. Some people are also unable to eat dairy products and it seems that carrageenan, a common thickener in a great many food products, also triggers it. Medication in gelatin capsules are also a problem for many. About a year ago, a recently diagnosed friend of mine were in a McDonalds just long enough for her to get an iced coffee. You could smell meat cooking. The next day, her all symptoms kicked in. So she certainly doesn't want to walk through the smoke of a barbeque!

Many doctors still know nothing about it, and doctors studying it are still learning from the afflicted. The symptoms vary so much that many people go for years before being diagnosed and how it affects people varies greatly. My friend, for example, cannot eat anything with carrageenan, but has no problem with dairy products.

The tick is still pretty much localized in the southeast though moving north and west as the climate continues to warm. Any of you know anyone with the allergy?
