Another Year, Another Tooth

Two years ago I had a lower right molar pulled. Last October a lower left canine had to go. Friday was the end of a lower left molar. Even the doctor agrees that we have to stop meeting like this. The 360-degree pictures of my mouth show that very few of my teeth are 'virgin'. (I didn't know that's what they call teeth with no repairs.)

The DDS wants to create 'appliances' for both sides of my mouth. This space has to heal before he can take impressions.

I had to take 2000 MG of amoxicilin an hour before the surgery and am supposed to take three a day for a week. I'll have to heal without that or starve to death living in the bathroom.

I was interested that both the dentist and the oral surgeon were negative about bone strengthening meds. Of course, they are positioned to be see the negative results of these.

All 4 of my wisdom teeth cleared and were left in place until a couple of years ago when I had to have the 2 upper ones pulled. I think I have 1-2 virgin teeth left, but I've have everything done from root canals to implants over the years. Probably have had a gallon of novocaine injected over time, no wonder I'm a numbskull

chisue, maybe you've already done so (your comment doesn't have the details), but if not, I recommend your getting a second opinion from a prosthodontist.

You may know they're dentists with extra years of advanced training in restorations and difficult situations. If your advice comes from a general dentist, s/he may have a limited skill set and may be recommending one or one of a just a few approaches they can perform. A prosthodontist has a complete toolbox of all the possibilities that may apply and will be able to give you a comprehensive recommendation.

Pots, #2 perlite, orchid seedling bark, and a brick of long strand sphagnum moss. The big pots are going to get the plant tower treatment with some epiphyllums. The small, tall pots are for hanging. you can see some others that are in use on the lefthand side of the image. The pots are these lovely slipcast Italian pots that have ridges on the inside so that you can stack them without them jamming together.

Bed redone last year will get another makeover

Here's an update on where I left this left bed as of Wednesday. Over the last couple weeks, I moved a few existing hostas and added a few more for green or chartreuse color. Decided not to worry about overcrowding, what with the tree root competition. Still need to trim the azalea encroaching on the left to bring in a little more light. New hostas are Lakeside Shore Master (top left corner), Lakeside Down Sized (front to right of Touch of Class), Heat Wave (front to right of that), my mutant Giantland Mouse Cheese (right side past Halcyon), and Little Treasure (front right corner).

Marcia, that is terrible to hear about the frozen plants! That is very positive of you to look onward. I’ve definitely had some losses too from leaving tender plants outside too early. Even early June can surprise me with minus temperatures at night. L Clark, glad to hear All My Loving is doing well for you. All my roses planted in-ground are well. I think I lost one minature rose which was in a buried pot, but the plant was weak last year due to blackspot. I’m thinking back to the roses I’ve lost over the years. Out of the 40 or more varieties I’ve tried, the ones I remember losing off the top of my head are LD Braithwaite, Rugelda, Frontenac, Topaz Jewel and a few miniatures. Main factors have been lazy soil prep and poor location. For the miniatures it’s usually blackspot, which weakens the plant too much. I definitely have some dead canes to trim, but not as much as previous years. Looks like the fall was gradual enough for the branches to go dormant, and there was enough reliable snow cover. It’s shaping up to be a decent spring!

Have a cup of yogurt a day-or my doctor said at least a spoonful - it will help your stomach tolerate antibiotics better. There’s all different types. I prefer Yoplait Whips if eating it with nothing else mixed in.

Chisue your oncologist should decide on the bone strengthening shots. DH is on xgeva. He's having the same dental issues. Dentist said it's from chemo. He had to stop xgeva for several months til his gum healed from extraction. Made a difference, negatively, being off it. Made a positive difference once he started them again.

It's nice to have something "virgin." Personally, I don't like to wear jewelry, and I've always maintained that I have "virgin earlobes."

I wasn't interested in repairs until now, when I will definitely need some 'chewing surface' added. Appliances sound like a logical solution for someone with limited lifespan. (I'm 84 and seven years into a six-to-ten-year prognosis due to multiple myeloma.) I've rejected implants and bridges.

I should ask what anyone here has experienced with dental 'appliances'.
