Another Year, Another Tooth

Two years ago I had a lower right molar pulled. Last October a lower left canine had to go. Friday was the end of a lower left molar. Even the doctor agrees that we have to stop meeting like this. The 360-degree pictures of my mouth show that very few of my teeth are 'virgin'. (I didn't know that's what they call teeth with no repairs.)

The DDS wants to create 'appliances' for both sides of my mouth. This space has to heal before he can take impressions.

I had to take 2000 MG of amoxicilin an hour before the surgery and am supposed to take three a day for a week. I'll have to heal without that or starve to death living in the bathroom.

I was interested that both the dentist and the oral surgeon were negative about bone strengthening meds. Of course, they are positioned to be see the negative results of these.

All 4 of my wisdom teeth cleared and were left in place until a couple of years ago when I had to have the 2 upper ones pulled. I think I have 1-2 virgin teeth left, but I've have everything done from root canals to implants over the years. Probably have had a gallon of novocaine injected over time, no wonder I'm a numbskull

chisue, maybe you've already done so (your comment doesn't have the details), but if not, I recommend your getting a second opinion from a prosthodontist.

You may know they're dentists with extra years of advanced training in restorations and difficult situations. If your advice comes from a general dentist, s/he may have a limited skill set and may be recommending one or one of a just a few approaches they can perform. A prosthodontist has a complete toolbox of all the possibilities that may apply and will be able to give you a comprehensive recommendation.

Going to guess it's the Dwarf Orinoco. I love that variety, as it's vigorous and has good cold hardiness. I have the same issue with getting my corms confused all the time. Once mine come along more, I wll have to post pics for people to help me identify what's what. Got mine all out and they are waiting for some warm weather

Meg - there are many, many ways to root rose cuttings. I use the "one gallon plastic bag" method. I take the cutting ( 6-7 inches from the top of a cane which has finished blooms at the top of it, and at least 2 leaf clusters). Then I get a 1 gallon zip lock bag, put one cup of potting soil in it, get the soil soaked with water, and wring out the bag so that the soil is not too wet. Then I dip the bottom of the cutting in powdered growth hormone, and make a hole in the soil and insert it into the soil lump so that it will fit into the bag. Then I spray the cutting gently with a solution of a couple of drops of dish washing liquid in a quart of water, and inflate the bag and then zip it up, so it is like a balloon. Then I put it on my back porch in strong light, but no direct sun. If the bag deflates, I blow it up again. In a few months I check the bottom of the bag (one good thing about this method is that you can move the bag around without disturbing the cutting) to see if any roots have formed. If I see the white roots, I let it grow maybe 2 more weeks, and then pot it up into a small pot, which I leave on the back porch for a while so I can make sure it is OK. mmmm12 - I think my dark raspberry one is Dick Koster, but all of my Koster roses are sports from the original plant of Margo Koster, so who knows? Just keep an eye on your DK - I have no experience whatever in growing Koster roses in zone 5 - we are in zone 9 trending to zone 10. Good luck! Jackie

Have a cup of yogurt a day-or my doctor said at least a spoonful - it will help your stomach tolerate antibiotics better. There’s all different types. I prefer Yoplait Whips if eating it with nothing else mixed in.

Chisue your oncologist should decide on the bone strengthening shots. DH is on xgeva. He's having the same dental issues. Dentist said it's from chemo. He had to stop xgeva for several months til his gum healed from extraction. Made a difference, negatively, being off it. Made a positive difference once he started them again.

It's nice to have something "virgin." Personally, I don't like to wear jewelry, and I've always maintained that I have "virgin earlobes."

I wasn't interested in repairs until now, when I will definitely need some 'chewing surface' added. Appliances sound like a logical solution for someone with limited lifespan. (I'm 84 and seven years into a six-to-ten-year prognosis due to multiple myeloma.) I've rejected implants and bridges.

I should ask what anyone here has experienced with dental 'appliances'.
