I just had the worst cheesecake of my life....and I made it

This thing was truly awful. I had a few bites and threw the rest in the trash.

I had a hankering to try an apricot cheesecake, and used this recipe: Apricot Cheesecake Recipe

The texture was dry and crumbly, with very little flavor, and the topping looked like vomit. Nothing like the pretty picture that accompanies the recipe. Which I could probably have overlooked if actually tasted good, but even that part of it was bad.

IDK if it was the recipe itself or whether I got some bum cream cheese. Probably both, because the cream cheese would account for the texture but not the lack of flavor or topping issues. I wanted to test-drive the recipe so I bought store brand cream cheese because it was $2 a block less than the Philadelphia, and I knew it was off when I opened the package, it wasn't creamy like the Philadelphia but was a bit crumbly in texture. So at least I learned a lesson -- don't be cheap, spring for the good stuff.

I just do not have the knack for making a good baked cheesecake. I really would be better off sticking to the icebox types (no bake), those I can do well with. Anyone have a good no-bake apricot or other fruit cheesecake they'd like to share?
