Orwellian nursing home

last year

Consider this a rhetorical vent. So i visit this nursing home resident who has LBD, and she desperately wanted to be wheeled outside as the weather was scrumptious. So i ask the head honcho among the nurses, and she refused on the grounds that it requires a relative's signature. What baloney, given that there's a high fence surrounding the grassy outside area. Nobody's getting in or out of that high fence.

I later discussed this with another resident who said i should request the girl at the recreation dept. to wheel her out. So i tell the recreation team that the LBD patient is depressed because she wants to go outside. So they respond they're busy and can't.

Later on i ran into one of them again, and she told me nastily "you're not allowed to say a patient is depressed, because depression is a diagnosis, and you're not allowed to discuss anyone's diagnosis".

So i tell her she's socialist and that that i have the right to freedom of speech, upon which she went ballistic, yelling that i should leave the home.

Seriously, you can't make this up! All this really happened today in our lovely USSR of America.
